The 3-point streak ends, but no one seems to care

I for one disagree completely. The streak had meaning to the program, to the program's identity and to the fan base. And we did chuck up a three at the end of the game with a double digit lead. I don't think anyone on either team was upset about it. I wouldn't have felt bad (nor would the majority of fans at Hilton) if the team did chuck up 5-6 threes in the last minute or so to try and hit one. Does it feel the same as getting it during the flow of the game...meh...perhaps not. But it still definitely meant something to all involved...and obviously to the basketball world from ESPN down to local news as it was covered extensively. Does that mean you have to care? Nope...just don't expect the same feelings from others.
Would you rather make the Big Dance, or keep the streak alive? I’m glad the team is together and getting better. Addy’s best game, and she is our X.

Agree but what some of us are saying we would not just go to an offense that is only chucking up a 3 ball just to keep the streak and take a chance on losing a game. It seems like some who are so upset would do that.
Gotcha...def agree with that!

It's worth repeating:

ok…so a team can lose to a really good team by not playing their game? Not exactly our situation.
13 pts is hardly insurmountable. Chucking up prayers when we haven't hit one all night and don't need to be doing it is a great way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Those saying "would you rather take an unlikely chance at losing or get the streak", are you against coaches putting in the bottom of the bench players in games that they're up big at the end? In theory **** could happen and they lose those too. Are you against players trying to help others get a record when they're close? That happens all the time too.

The immediate pivot to "i'm glad we did what we did because of the microscopic chance we could have lost" is a real weird response.

No, I’m not. Put them in. Winning takes focus and commitment. Fans make poor coaches and general managers, I get it. You have emotions and you find arguments to support them. Records are great for fans and graduated/retired players. They are corrosive to competitors, because winning is the objective.

Hope the coaches & players aren't still crying over a trivia question that everyone will forget about in 5 years, because WVU isn't gonna take it easy on us tomorrow.

Umm, from all I've read the coaches and players haven't cried about it at all. But I agree with you it will take a good effort for the ladies to get the W out there.

Curious. ISU had 945 straight games with a 3 pointer. What is the record for most consecutive games with a 3 pointer for a women’s team?

Chucking up prayers? Syd Harris was the #3 Ranked 3PT shooter in the NCAA going in and coming off a game where she made five of nine on the road. She only took two shots in 27 minutes at home. If nothing else, ISU should have run two or three plays for Harris in the fourth quarter to keep her sharp for the games ahead.

Considering that Hansford, our worst 3-pt shooter who is not a post, came the closest to actually making one, then yes, calling them prayers is accurate.

Chattanooga is indeed the new active leader at 791, per a UTC press release.

Using Stathead, I see seven schools that are currently in Div I and were in Div I back in 02-03 (the oldest stats they have) and have not had a game without a made three-pointer in that time-period:

(in alphabetical order)
  • BYU
  • Chattanooga
  • FDU
  • IU Indy (formerly IUPUI)
  • LIU
  • Sacred Heart
  • South Alabama
So those seven schools are all near the top, depending on how many games each has played per season.

So here's what I believe to be the top active streaks in Div I WBB as of today's date:
  1. Chattanooga: 792 (last game without a three: 12/16/99 vs Tennessee State)
  2. BYU: 781 (last game without a three: 2/26/00 vs Utah)
  3. Sacred Heart: 768 (has a three in every game since going Div I for the 99-00 season)
  4. South Alabama: 710 (last game without a three: 3/3/01 vs Denver)
  5. Milwaukee: 689 (last game without a three: 11/26/02 vs Marquette)
  6. Marist: 656 (last game without a three: 3/6/04 vs St. Peter's)
EDIT: Had some teams on the list that shouldn't have been there -- school name changes threw a wrench into things. I think this list is now accurate. However, the lists I've seen out there generally do not include BYU and Sacred Heart -- I'm not sure if I'm missing something or they are.
