Not arguing your point. He has been around some great programs and he did win a national recruiting award. Alabama did have elite defensive teams. And sounds like some players really liked his teaching. However, looking at his time with Texas the first time, you really can't say he was a great recruiter or that the defensive line was an elite unit. Also, he got let go from Detroit and the Lions had their share of defensive troubles. He wasn't forthcoming when he got in trouble with the NCAA over recruiting violation at Alabama.True but Davis was also not the defensive coordinator only the D line coach those years. If you look at his record, he has been on a lot of quality teams through his years coaching football at the highest level.
