Criteria are:
  1. Past national team members (top three from the World or Olympic Team Trials)
  2. Top eight at the 2019 Senior U.S. Open
  3. Top three at the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championship; or NCAA champion from a previous year AND top two from the 2019 U23 World Team Trials (must accomplish both).
  4. Previous Cadet, Junior, U23 world medalist
I don't think he fits any of those, could still place top 8 at the US Open though.I think he would if he wrestles at it.

I believe you can take an Olympic RS and wrestle for another country, but he would still need to qualify for one. Micic said that he could take one and wrestle for Serbia in a post NCAA interview with Trackwrestling.
Technically he made a Jr World team this past year, just had to give up his spot due to injury. Not sure on the criteria with that.

I believe the 1st criteria, "past national team member", only includes senior level. Gomez was on the junior world team. If he would have been able to wrestle, I think there is a good chance he would have earned a medal and met criteria 4.

Missed that detail, you are correct. He does have a shot at being top 8 at the Senior US Open this year.

Just wanted to say... I know its the off season so its fun to let rumors fly and speculate BUT..Over half the stuff you see on other boards is trolling. Flo is misleading, not to mention thin skinned, and I think they get a good chunk of their content off message boards.

Teske is leaving PSU.

I don't think Teske fits with us for the reasons mentioned--not a 125 anymore, not appreciably better than anyone we have, etc. Now, if he were truly a stud I might think different. I also think there's been a bridge burned there.

If true, it was not difficult to see this being a potential eventuality. I understand the Penn State draw.

As far as Teske and Iowa State...I would have loved to have had him straight out of high school. Absolutely loved it. And I’m not 100% convinced Reeves will ever be big enough at 125 when it’s his turn.

That said...Reeves is an absolute bulldog, with a chip on his shoulder and WANTS to wear cardinal and gold.

I’m happy with the future at 125 as it stands today.

Even if Reeves is on the small side I think he will be good enough to have it not matter. Spencer Lee is dwarfed by most 125s and he's 2/2 in titles. That said, I'm not sure Spencer Lee is human so maybe a bad example.

Very excited to have Reeves!

You guys may know more than me, but I think you absolutely take Teske if he wants to come here. Sanderson thought he was good enough for PSU. Are we really arrogant enough to think we can just turn down PSU recruits, let alone one who would only cost in-state tuition?

I don’t think it’s about not wanting him (at least for me). It’s about scholarship allocations. I would imagine we have a fair amount of money tied up in Gomez, Reeves, Anderson and Mackall. Need some space between guys at each weight when you’re dealing with 9.9 scholarships.

You have to think we need to invest heavily at 65, 97 and heavyweight.

Gomez and Anderson probably. I doubt (hope) Mackall is not getting a lot. Reeves and Teske add up to 1 person when you factor in in-state. I just think Teske is too much of a bargain falling into our laps to turn down (if any of this is true). We are talking about the 2nd or 3rd ranked 125 pounder in the class of 2018 who you'd have for 4 years.

They don’t let you pull the old gable shenanigans anymore. Doesn’t matter if instate or out of state. You pay 1/2 their way and it’s a half scholarship regardless.

Really? OK, if that's the case that certainly lessens my argument. Still think he's a talent worth looking at.

That’s the way I have understood it. Gable got in trouble because he counted everyone as out of state. So if you were from Iowa and got a 1/4 scholarship it was actually 1/2 because you got 1/4 of out of state. NCAA only went back so many years but found he had had been around 50% over the limit during the whole time they investigated.

Remember, that was when Iowa was the big HS wrestling state.

The NCAA limit was 11. The Big Ten had its own formula for minor sports, and Gable just said he was following the conference's rules. When re-calculated using NCAA specs, it was found that Iowa was giving out close to 13 per year.

The NCAA first notified the Big Ten about its scholarship practices for non-revenue/Olympic/equivalency sports in 1979, but it went on for a decade before any penalties were actually levied. Iowa had 8 different sports involved out of the 37 total teams across the entire conference.

A bit off topic, but what are the odds Carr takes an Olympic Redshirt next season? He'd qualify and he seems to have been pretty focused on senior level wrestling this season.

From hearing bits of information from various places, I believe he is 100% locked in on being second half of our 49/57 bash brother combo next year.
