I have a great one-person ultra-light MSR tent but my wife is planning a camping trip with a girl friend and needs a two-person tent. We have several larger tents but they are crappy. Quality is more important to me than the price of the tent.

I'd recommend getting a 3 person tent. They extra space will come in handy especially for a casual camper. Mine is a North Face Rock 32. Super easy setup. excellent rainfly and waterproof. Total weight is ~ 6 lbs. I've used it for camping trips and bike touring. I'm very pleased with it. If you are set on a 2-person they also make the Rock 22.

It's a 4 person, but we got a Marmot Halo 4P this spring and love it. We use it for 2 people. Full fly=stayed completely dry in a thunderstorm a couple weeks ago.

Marmot is the way to go. Good quality **** produced by them.

My dad bought a six person coleman a couple of weeks ago that we are very happy with, made it through a thunderstorm with no leaks.

My wife and I use this tent. Its the older model but I think they are similar.

REI Half Dome 2 Tent at REI.com

We both like it although a little tight for two people. They make a two plus now that might be nice. Its a good all around tent. Cheap which is nice and awesome warranty. If you like REI you know that if not sorry. We used it on RAGBRAI this year and I think we will most likely look into something larger for next year. All in all a great tent though.

I've done a fair amount of backpacking, and I believe you can't beat this tent for a 2 person tent. It is easy to set up and the price is right. It has all the good features but no unnecessary extras.

With that said, I have a Kelty Gunnison 2 that I love. It is essentially the same at the half dome.

I hiked the entirety of the Appalachian Trail, from Georgia-Maine, setting up a 2 person tent every night for 3 months. We had a Kelty, and because of its performance I will never buy anything else. Easy to set up, durability in VERY heavy rain and wind storms, and even did a good job of keeping out bears ;).

Personally I would never buy anything but a Kelty.

I have used two tents on Ragbrai-Alps Mountaineering Osage and Marmot Limelight 3 and the Marmot is a great tent. 3 people would be very tight but 2 is doable. The rain fly and footprint are great on this tent too.

Thanks for all the recommendations.

I ordered the Kelty Yellowstone from Amazon.com

Weight is not really an objective since I plan on continuing to use my MSR one-person tent for backpacking and bicycling.

I will be using this Kelty this weekend camping near Leadville, CO and then my wife plans on camping next week with a girl friend that will be visiting from Alaska.
