For those of you who are making the trip for the TCU game, the local DFW ISU alumni club is putting together an informal tailgate. We plan to start tailgating about 9am. There will also be a happy hour Friday in Fort Worth for those in town or maybe getting into town early enough. See the flyer attached for details.

It should be a great weekend, and we're looking forward to seeing a great ISU turnout for the weekend. A lot of people have done a lot of coordination to get these days set up. Feel free to contact me at the email on the flyer if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Me and my group of 15 will be at both events. This bar is in a great location on West 7th....lots of restaurants and bars in the area I recommend Fred's if you are looking for a great burger.

Does anyone know if there is RV parking anywhere close? 5-7 of us are riding down in an RV and wonder if there is a place by the stadium or do we need to figure something else out? We'll see you at Happy Hour and Tailgate (unless we're stuck in our RV!).

Unless he responds here, you might want to email isuarch80 at the email address on the flyer. He's been working close with TCU about where we can tailgate and may have an idea of what you can do with your RV. My guess though is that there won't be anything like Iowa State. Apparently most of the parking lots around the stadium are private donor lots which is why we are holding our tailgate in a church parking lot.

From my understanding though, that's not real uncommon with the schools here in Texas. People kinda just tailgate where ever they can find room since campus and the stadiums tend to be in the middle of the cities.

I am not sure exactly where the RV lots are (other than the Doner RV lot), you can probably check gofrogs.com for parking information. I would say from where you guys are tailgating it will be approximately a 15 minute walk to the stadium. Not bad. Most of the closer spots are doner or season long lots. For those not in an RV.... the church lot is right on a corner and backs up to a neighborhood. You can easily just park for free in front of a house, and walk over to the tailgate and from then go on to the game. It will actually work out pretty well.

Will this be similar to the tailgate that gets put on in Austin?

No, this one is BYO tailgating supplies, beer, food, etc. Like you would be tailgating in Ames. I plan on bringing enough propane for anyone to use my grill through the afternoon in case any out of towners want to use it.

Stop on by! We'll have bags, ladder golf, and drinking games going on!

What are the chances to find a good deal for a few tickets from scalpers?

If you are coming down from Iowa for the game, I would get tickets of Stubhub and not risk it. Even if you are in a TCU sections, TCU fans are pretty respectable fans so you probably don't have to worry about getting hassled. I've also never had any luck scalping tickets in my life, though, so I might be biased.

If you live in the area it might be worth trying to scalp. Worst thing that happens is you come out and tailgate with us for the morning and continue through the game. Not like that never happens in Ames :D.

Yeah, there will definitely be people selling tickets, but they will all be on the opposite side of the stadium from where you are. I usually see the most people along Canty Ave. just west of University Drive. i can almost guarantee that there will no be any people scalping tickets in the lot where this ISU tailgate is being held. There will probably also be some people along Stadium Drive. The only problem TCU does not really appreaciate scalpers, so most of it is actually done right off campus as opposed to right by the stadium which is on campus. You will definitely be able to find tickets, and if you are willing to wait until right after the game starts or very close to game time, prices will plummet.

I'm makin the trip with a group of about 15-18 people...

Question: since it's a 3:30 kick, when do lots open? and better to park then shuttle/walk or try and hit lots around the stadium?

The DFW ISU Club tailgate opens at 9:00. See the flier at the top of the page. Bring your tailgate stuff (or just your beer) and join in!

EDIT: Make that 9:00 AM Central Time

Official lots only open 6 hours before gametime. As this game is a 230 kick that mean lots open at 8:30.

As the campus is pretty small it does not really matter what you do in terms of parking. Most of the closer lots are alumni lots, so you will most likely not be able to park there anyway. There is the University Christian Church on the corner of Cantey and Universiity that has spots for a pretty cheap price. Spots fill up quiuck though. it is very simple to park at Paschall High school on berry and forest park and take the shuttle. Drops you off right in front of the stadium. That is what my parents do, so they do not have to walk very far.

There is also parking along streets in the neighborhoods. You can park just east of campus on the streets for free, and take a stroll right through the middle of campus until you hit the stadium (10-15 minute walk).

Link to parking info on gofrogs. Also has maps of campus and surrounding area:

Here is a link to the UCC parking: opens two hours prior to kickoff:
