Pretend there's one month each year you couldn't watch, follow, or cover any sport, which would you choose, and why? Which month would be most agonizing if you were banned from exposure?

July would have to be the easiest sports month to give up for me.

Being banned for March Madness would be awful. January would be a close second with the college football playoffs, the NFL playoffs and the beginning of college basketball conference season.

Maybe try it with Cheese Whiz? ;)

We sometimes make breakfast sandwiches with eggo waffles as the bread. Make for a good tailgate food. Egg, cheese, bacon/sausage and waffle. Griddle like a grilled cheese sandwich. Good eatin' right there

My vote goes to football. Teams can fall into favorable seeding scenarios in the March Madness. Plus, one great player can carry a team to a Final Four (it's still not easy), but you need more than that for football.

It's more common for a team to fall off following a FF appearance than a CFB Playoff appearance.

Royce White could have carried ISU to a FF, if we hadn't run into Kentucky in Louisville of all places. If we end up with some more favorable matchups that year, we could have gone much farther.

Think I new a girl named Annatto.
The Taino indians used annatto as a face paint coloring. In some parts of the Caribbean it is still used as food coloring/spice. I also found out a couple of years ago that it is used in the local cuisine in Guam.

Is February the worst month?

NFL is over. No NCAA football. NBA is still regular season. It's cold. It's windy. We get too much snow. It has that make believe holiday to keep the rose economy alive. No good movies in theatres. You get stir crazy for spring.

I can keep going...

Question for the mailbag:

Who do you think would have the best poker face in the team? My pick would be Shayok. That dude is expressionless.

Worst poker face? My pick would be a tie between Lard, NWB, and Jacobson. You always know how those guys are feeling just by looking at them.

Lard would scream every time he gets a face card.

So Taino Indians invented Cheese Whiz and spread it on their face?

Since we're talking teenage relationships this week:

My teenage daughter has a boyfriend. He's nice, polite, friendly (without being overbearing), gets good grades, takes advanced classes, has a decent haircut, and dislikes the University of Iowa. However, his goal in life is to be a bicycle mechanic. Do I just chalk this up to youthful innocence, accept the fact that if the relationship continues he'll just leach off my daughter's work ethic, or point out to my daughter that this is an underwhelming career goal?

One solution is to run him over with your bike. Ruin bikes for him forever

Part of me feels like being a bicycle mechanic might be more lucrative than many of us would think. But, I'm also the staff writer for an independent college sports website so I'm not sure I'm the one to ask when it comes to picking lucrative professions.

It's the worst month overall. July is the worst for sports fans, but at least then it's summer and you can be outside. Besides the Super Bowl and ISU basketball, February brings nothing but misery to the table.

July is NBA free agency. Which is cool for like 2 days.
