Thought the email from the AD today regarding a student ticket lottery was interesting:

In advance of the Cyclones playing in the NCAA East Regional this Friday night, we will allow students, who are men’s basketball student season ticket holders, to request one (1) ticket to the NCAA Final Four via a lottery that will be conducted online from Thursday, March 27 through Saturday, March 29 at Noon CST. Please know tickets will only be available if Iowa State advances to the Final Four.

Approximately 700 Final Four tickets will be available to students and will cost $40 each. The tickets will be located on the floor, behind the basket for the semifinal game that Iowa State plays in on April 5 (you will be located in another section area of the stadium for the other semifinal game). If the Cyclones advance to the NCAA Championship game on April 7, those who bought a ticket to the semifinal game will automatically receive a complimentary ticket to the championship game. Students can request one (1) ticket and will be selected by a random lottery drawing.

The number of entries you receive in the ticket lottery will be based on the number of games you attended this past season. The more games you attended, the more entries you will receive in the lottery drawing.

I just entered. No chance I would miss this opportunity (although I cringed a bit at receiving this message the day before the Sweet 16 game... even though I don't believe in jinxes).

I don't buy into the jinx idea, either, but it felt weird getting that e-mail for season ticket holders today.
Of course, I have the stadium's ticket sales page up, anyway, ready to click and go.

Put my name into it. If we make it, there's no way in the world I'll miss it. We'll sleep in the car if we need to.

Not a bad price if you get the opportunity.

Not a student here, but my college buddy just asked if is go to final 4 with him. I almost pulled the trigger in NYC, but I told him id do the final 4 if we make it.

If there are any student ticket holders who for whatever reason won't be able to make it to Dallas, if you could get a ticket & pass it off I'd make it worth your while...

I don't know if I'll enter. Spending a lot for NYC

Go in a group:

Ticket = $40/person
Gas = $50/person
Hotel = $100/person maybe?

If you made this trip like a student you could do it for $200. While that is no drop in the bucket... it's the Final Four. I mean, come on.

If I didn't have drill, I'd definitely enter this. Once in a lifetime opportunity (unfortunately). Will probably just have to wait for the next Final Four.

Also please know that the credit card you use at the time of purchase must be presented at AT&T stadium Stadium to pick up your ticket. No physical tickets will be issued in advance. Thus, if you cannot attend the Final Four in North Texas, DO NOT REGISTER , as you will not be able to transfer your ticket to another student or person.

If I heard correctly from my roommate (who actually read the email), the ticket will need to be picked up (or placed on) the card in which you used to purchase it. So.. if a student won the ticket, the card they used for purchase would need to be present down there. Not sure about printing it off and whatnot though.. again, I didn't read the email, my roommate just filled me in on it.

Edit: beat me to it.

I don't think I would drive if I went. But I just entered so we'll see

I figured they'd have something like this or make you show your student ID when you get there. Otherwise it'd be very easy for nonstudents to get tickets through current students. If only normal tickets were this cheap..

A lot of the tickets for Jerry World are paperless ones keyed to the credit card used to purchase them.

Is this an effort to combat the secondary market, or just a cost-saving/convenience measure? Or both?

OK, do you have to enter your CC info at the time you enter this raffle? Or is that not until after you win (& ISU is for sure there?)

Cause couldn't I just give my CC info to a student to use to make the purchase? Or do they match the student's name who won to the CC info? I would assume not, because not all students even have credit cards.

Here's the full email:

Dear Iowa State Men’s Basketball Student Season Ticket Holders:
In the event that the Iowa State University men’s basketball team advances to the 2014 NCAA Final Four (at AT&T Stadium in North Texas (Dallas) on Saturday, April 5 and Monday, April 7) , we thought it was important to share the following information with you regarding the process and timeline that will be used to obtain a student ticket to the Final Four.
Please read this entire document, as it contains important information on how to obtain your Final Four ticket. Please know with the expected high demand for Final Four tickets the following process and requirements must be followed.

Final Four Student Lottery

Per NCAA policy, please note that the ticket lottery and purchase process will be fully electronic, and thus NON-TRANSFERABLE. If you are selected to purchase a ticket, the ticket will be loaded on the credit card you used to buy it. Only one (1) credit card can be used to purchase one (1) ticket. ( ONLY ONE TICKET WILL BE UPLOADED PER CREDIT CARD. YOU CANNOT PURCHASE ANOTHER PERSON'S TICKET ON THE SAME CREDIT CARD)

Final Four Ticket Lottery Eligibility

Iowa State students who are men’s basketball student season ticket holders from this season (2013-14) are the only ones who can enter the ticket lottery. Other students who try to enter the ticket lottery will not be considered.
Online Registration Process

•Please go here to register for the Final Four ticket lottery: https://oss.ticketmaster.com/aps/isubur/EN/account/login?&DB_OEM_ID=10700
•Enter your Iowa State Student ID number into the "Account ID" box and your Student ID number again in the "Password" box.
•Click on “Student Final Four Lottery” located in the Ticket & Plan Purchases section to begin the process.
•You will have from now until Saturday, March 29 at Noon CST to request your ticket.

Lottery Selection Process

The number of entries you receive in the ticket lottery will be based on the number of games you attended this past season. The more games you attended, the more entries you will receive in the lottery drawing.
Email Notification

On Sunday, March 30, the students selected in the lottery drawing will be notified via email from the Iowa State Athletics Ticket Office. Only these students will receive access to purchase a Final Four ticket. Selections are NON-TRANSFERABLE . A random number of students who are not selected to purchase a ticket will be put on a waiting list and will get an email stating this. If you are on the waiting list, this does not guarantee you the option to purchase ticket.

Ticket Purchase

On Monday, March 31 , the selected students will receive another email from the Iowa State Athletics Ticket Office, with a unique link to the NCAA’s Veritix ordering system. Students will need to follow that link to the Veritix system to purchase their ticket online. These students will have access to purchase one (1) semifinal ticket at a cost of $40. If the Cyclones advance to the NCAA championship game, those who bought a ticket to the semifinal game will automatically receive a complimentary ticket to the final game. The NCAA will receive the list of students selected to purchase a ticket through the Veritix system. Veritix will automatically cancel any registrations from students who were not selected through the Iowa State Athletics Ticket Office lottery.

The deadline for students to purchase their Final Four ticket online is Monday, March 31 at 5 p.m. CST . If not all tickets are purchased by March 31 at 5 p.m., the students on the waiting list (based on the tickets remaining) will be given the opportunity to purchase a ticket. Students from the initial group who do not purchase their ticket by 5 p.m. can still purchase a ticket, but are not guaranteed a ticket.

Not sure. Tickets are plentifully available on StubHub. I would think they'd have a convenience center on site.

Their website sells it as a convenience measure. I do think it sounds convenient.
I also notice that, at least on priceline, many of the hotels offer free cancellation.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like whoever wins can give that link/& or use whoever's CC on that link that they want. I'd understand if some people didn't think it was right or didn't want to, just throwing it out there that if someone is 'selected', & gets a unique link to the NCAA Veritix ordering system, I'd be willing to pay a little extra for it.
