i also find it funny that everyone says the students shouldnt be allowed lower.. how does duke, illinois, and all the other schools that have rabid bball fans do it? hmmm... anything can work, if you want it to... i dont mind either way, but no way anyone can assume something just wouldnt work. either way will work just fine.

Difference is those students show up regularly.

How much is a student basketball season ticket currently?

Here is how the Parquet seating and donation pricing works.

1. Minimum donation to be eligible for 4 seats $2,500. Or if you want center court (2 center sections on either side): $5,000 minimum donation (same donation required to be eligible for 2 court-side). There is no difference between arena circle and parquet based on row number, it is based on center section.

2 Current season ticket cost/seat: $470 (or $490, I cannot remember for sure), or $2,500/seat for court-side.

3. The minimum total cost to sit in parquet with 4 seats is $4,380, up to $10,000 for 2 if you are sitting court-side.

4. Currently there is a major waiting list of $2,500 donors sitting in the balcony sides waiting to move down and many of the current parquet season ticket holders have been asking for better seats for years.

5. Given this, while I understand the idea behind sending a letter out to donors asking them if they want to make room for students, with the waiting lists, there is no way the are going to upset those who either have these seats or are already waiting in line.

If you want to look at moving the student section to something like you see at Illinois or Duke, you are first going to have to re-energize the existing section. I see two things being necessary for that.

Step 1 is disband Cyclone Alley. The shirt logistics thing makes it hard to give away a ticket if you can't make the game, and the whole feel and attitude of the section has changed since CA. Before CA was around, the student section had a feel much more like that of football, but it is just dead now.

Step 2, put a team on the floor worth cheering for. We are now going on 5 years of mediocre basketball. When we aren't playing for anything meaningful or pulling off the occasional upset as we used to do much more regularly, there isn't as much to cheer for, and the bball games aren't must see events. In the late 90s and early 2000s you didn't dare miss a game because something special could happen on any given night. We don't have that right now.

I think if you can find a way to make those things happen, the students will fill it up and they will get off their butts, put away their phones, and cheer. At that point, you could try to figure out how to pull of a reseating of the section. Right now though, we are a long long way away from that.

Somewhere in the U.S.
Seems to me it might be kind of a chicken/egg thing.

Don't give the students better seats because they never show up? Or.....maybe if the students got better seats, and could be more involved, and thus it was more fun and zany, more of them would show up?

Defensive are we? Don't kill anybody when you are running around the upper concourse.
I pray for the day a trip up happens. Preferably during a women's game, when he shows up solely to do that and leaves. That's totally awesome. Wish I was that cool.

What I would like to see is the student section in the arena circle seats on both sides, and then put the rest behind the baskets like it is now. I think that would provide the best homecourt advantage/most noise and involvement. If not that, then give the student section all of/most of the north side parquet/arena circle.

Of course, neither will ever happen because it'll **** off too many rich donors who just sit on their hands the entire game (if they show up...) and don't make any noise.

And donate what amounts to a few thousand per seat.

That seems to always be left out in these gripes by some students. Pay the NCC fee and full ticket package - and even as a student you can sit about anywhere you want too.

looks like more people want a change in the location of the student section than keeping it as it is.

This type of summary from the poll smacks of the soviet media recap of a head to head competiton between the USA and the USSR back in the cold war days. The USA won the competition, but you would have never known it from the Soviet account which was something along the line of ....

Glorious Soviet team gives a spirited effort to capture second place. In smaller print near the end of the article was the disclaimer that the USA finished next to last.

...When we graduate and have been working long enough to afford it. Do you forget that you were us at one point? And you didn't have to pay anywhere close to as much as we do these days.

I'm not angry about where we sit now, I don't really mind where we are and I think CA looks great on TV. I just feel we would have a better homecourt if the people who make the most noise were as close as possible to the action.

I think about tripping him about every time it happens. Ive seen him run into about 5 older people this year that arent expecting him to be running. The tool doesnt even realize he's doing it.

I don't suppose the fact that we only made two 3-point baskets in the first 37 minutes of the game would have anything to do with that. Hey, nobody's stopping you from going to town on that '3' sign- wave that sucker and SCREAM ALL. GAME. LONG!

But seriously, people like you that come in and start ******** and moaning annoy the **** out of me. I am ALL for crazed, rabid, insanely active fans, but I don't believe for a cotton-pickin' second that you did any of the things that you're belittling the student section for not doing. The fact that you even know how many students were standing, or sitting, or clapping, or screaming, or not being involved just proves that you paid more attention to other people than to the game itself. What's more, you were obviously sitting high up enough to see all this. How about you get down off your regal white hobby-horse and come down to the front row like a real fan, instead of ******** from on high? In the front row, you can scream and foam at the mouth all you want, PLUS you can't see what any other students are doing!

I bet you weren't even standing the whole game. Go to hell.

Wow seems like you took this **** to the heart or something. 1st of all, i was just stating how the student section is at the Hilton, and i wasnt trying to offend anyone. But i was just stating the correlation between these fans and student section changes, which is one of the reasons why courts change their configurations aside from the money. 2nd, i was in the 3rd row at the bottom and still saw many students sitting and such, its pretty obvious but never, NEVER, have i stated i was better than any of them, thats just you trying to twist my post since your clearly ticked off from it for some reason. All i was stating was that i dont really see much of an incentive to create another section for the students since we need help filling up the student section as it is. So just chill, it wasnt meant to attack anyone.

Oh and that cotton picking statement, i find it offensive to myself, but i wont hold that against you, im just saying.
