Storm the field or not?

Oh...if we do storm the field vs CU (I hope we don't, but I won't create endless posts/threads complaining if we do), at least storm it with some authority.

My only real beef with the storming of the field last Saturday, is it was very, very weak. You could tell most people were thinking, "should we storm or not?". That showed.

If you're gonna do it, go for gold and give it your best. Otherwise, just cheer for the team as the head to the locker room, leave and tip a couple back in celebration afterwards in the lots.

I think it boils down to two ways of looking at things:

One: Is entering the field merely a fun way to celebrate with the team?

Two: Is entering the field an acknowledgement of some grand achievement?

I also think there should be a three:

Is entering the field a potential health risk to some people? Yes. I hate to sound like an old coot here, but many people have been injured because of people rushing the field/court, some seriously, and that is why some people want to stop it. All 5'0" of my wife almost got trampled one time in the student section when people were rushing the field.

Agreed. I've had to take a friend to the E.R. from being trampled.

I just graduated a couple years back but I hate that every argument someone turns it into students vs. non-students. Students, the vast majority of us were in your shoes at one time and a lot of us recently. Just because we are not paying tuition anymore doesn't mean we don't remember what it was like.

It's a good point. In addition to that is the interaction between fan of one team and massive athlete from the other.

There have been a few isolated cases of those being an oil and water mixture. I'm honestly very surprised it hasn't happened more often.

When there is a major upset, I love watching a storming take place, when it's huge and comes from all angles. It really is an amazing sight, a field with not many people on it to a field with thousands on it - can't see any green anymore - in just seconds.

I get goosebumps seeing that. I also get uneasy too, especially when I see fans getting too close to opposing team players - taunting them. And of course, seeing folks get trampled over.

How many credits did it cost you to be able to post ISUFan22's favorite picture?

If we beat KU I'll go on the field with anyone that wants to. The best part about it is they have breakaway goalposts so we could actually get them down. KU fans are soft, we'll have no problem fighting our way out if that's what it comes down to.

When I was a player I hoped the fans to storm the field after EVERY win, infact most games we were trying to excourage the student section to do it. Show how excited you are. Yes I know we should act like we are used to winning, but any and all wins are exciting so celebrate them.

All of the worthless opinions on any of these "storming the field" threads(and I am including mine in that group), but this, my friends, to me is the only opinion that matters.....the opinion of an ACTUAL player.

Correct me if I'm wrong isufbcurt and/or ISUclones33, but I would almost equate storming the field and congratulating the players and coaches as encouraging the hell out of the players and coaches and make them strive to work harder the coming week. The opinion earlier on a post where the poster thought players didn't want fans to rush the field because that shows they don't have the faith that we should have won I think is BS. I don't think we should do it every game, but my opinion the best way to encourage the players is to congratulate them or pat them on the back after the game instead of acting like a bunch of prudes who just expected the win and we'll see if your worth it next week type of attitude. Throw in the fact that the vast majority of the 40-50,000 fans that are there never see the player since he/she lives anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours away. I have never rushed the field but even though I had a little hope we would pull out the victory on Saturday, I didn't expect it confidently and that was even more so the case for the EIU game.

What are your thoughts ISUClones33??? and thanks for your opinion isufbcurt...

So the only opinions that matter about ISU football are the ones of the players and coaches? I mean those are the ones that actually affect the outcome of the games, but IMO they are no more or less important than those of any given fan. There wouldn't be a stadium that seats 50,000 people if the only thing that mattered was what the players and coaches think.

The opinion of the fans is just as valid as the opinions of the players. The perspective of the players is just quite a bit different than the perspective of the fans.

edit: Also, what does your sig mean? Is "drule" an inside joke?

You hit it exactly theres nothing like celebrating a win, any win, with thousands of happy fans on the field after the game. It makes you want to go out the next week and work hard so it can happen again.

The part of my message you copied was pretty much sarcasm, which I know you should never try to do when typing what you want to say. I was just trying to show that getting our players jacked up to play like they did Saturday and much better as time goes on is to show them praise publicly when they win against a 14 pt favorite.

I will try to give you a personal example of where I am coming from. I was a manager of a business where, at one time, I had up to 35 people I was in charge of in a production type of environment. I always used the "If they do something well, praise them in public, if they screw up pull them aside and deal with it privately" type of attitude when dealing with them. I didn't like it at first because I thought something like that worked with 3 yr olds not grown men/women, but when I tried it, I couldn't believe the production increases that I was getting out of the same people. I am very analytical and was able to document it very well to show results to my supervisors. Before I did this, I would have never thought you could get that sort of response out of egos and guys older then I, but I know it works. Sorry for the long answer to a short question but I'm trying...........

About the "Drules" part of my signature and not "Drools"?????? Who knows, I seen it on a t-shirt once so it looked about the same as rules and that's the way I put it down I guess. Probably time to change it I guess to something that doesn't make it look like I am a Jr high kid......Need a cool picture but need to figure out how to do it first.

I don't think it was really that big of a deal. For the most part of the season it has been pretty painful to watch this team play, so why not let the fans who come to support the games every week, have fun for one of the few wins were going to have this year. If this is happening after we start winning more and more football games, then i would be a little dissapointed

OK. Credits should be taken away for anybody that says storm the field after any win and also bashed the pukeyes for storming after their Mich St win.

And nothing says 'give the players a pat on the back' like trying to bring down indestructible goalposts.

i'd have to agree with cymom, i know it's on the road and it's gutsy but for this team to possibly beat a national championship contender, depending on this weekends games and how they play.

Heck, if the pukeyes could not only rip down the posts in Minnesota a couple of years back, but almost go them out of the building, then we certianly can celebrate a huge win in Larry. How cool would that be?

I still want to rip the goal posts down at Kinnick, drive them back to Ames (carefully...) then parade them down Lincoln way to Lake LaVern. Is it going to happen? No. But a man can dream

You don't have to rip them down, they do that for you. We'd just have to overtake the "security guards" and carry them out of the stadium.
