Tailgating was a lot of fun but makes you really appreciate Ames and Jack Trice. I just hate how long you have to walk to get to the stadium.

A few things I found funny in the game were the booing of Petras. I honestly feel bad for the kid because the fans hate him. He keeps getting trotted out like a pig to slaughter. The other thing was the cheering their punter got. I get it, he’s very very good but it was just funny the eruptions he got before punting lol what a joke.

Others have said this... and I'll take the flack.. I was born 3 months premature at UI childrens hospital IC. The wave is one of the best things they have done and is genuine. But for some reason I still have this feeling that Duke Slater, The Wave (to a lesser extent) and ANF just come off as virtue signaling. It's like they expect everyone to say "look at us we are special!"
40% of the crowd is drunk and turns around and waves to kids that could be dying. It's disingenuous because they think they are doing something special. Being drunk and thinking about seriously ill children for 15 seconds and patting your self on the back is fake.

Also, the same people that wave are the same ones that boo 18-22 year olds and throw stuff on the field. Frauds.

One minute they're feeling so good about themselves for waving, the next they're throwing things at college kids because they're not playing well enough for them in a nationally irrelevant game.

It really is the most sanctimonious circle-jerk of a tradition. Not because of the act itself, but because of the way it's marketed. "The Wave".

I had this thought as well. What would be an actually cool tradition is if everyone got out their phones and donated money to the hospital every game.

I'll come off as an ******* for this take but whatever...at first, the wave was awesome because it was genuine. Then Iowa did what Iowa does and commercialized it to make themselves feel oh so good about themselves exact same thing as ANF. To me it is like one of those things when you do something truly good you do it without expecting anything in return...nope not the wave they want to make sure you damn well give them a pat on the back for it every single time.
I think you're spot on. It seems really contrived to me now and not spontaneous at all.

And there's going to be a 30/30 type show on BTN that'll be all about the history of "the wave". Which goes back to that ancient time of what, 2017?

I don't even know how you'd get a half hour out of that but whatever...

This was my 7th CyHawk game inside Kinnick. No real complaints. Poor Petras got a lot of boo birds. They could use some help with their in-game music. I think it would help the marginal crowd get more into the game.
