Interestingly, journalism is 85% sensationalism 15% news; a dramatic shift from when I grew up where it was the other way around. I started seeing the transition when the internet started replacing brick&mortar. I can't blame them because they're in survivor mode. I've always looked for point/counterpoint as a means to let the truth bubble to the surface. But, now it's more confusing than ever.I feel like we can expect a little more out of journalism, no? At the very least they could leave the sensational language out of it and just stick to the facts and say something like "numerous recruiting services list ISU as offering Stinson a scholarship where his father played basketball". I mean even a minimal amount of research shows he hasn't been on campus since June of 23 which is a pretty big red flag. I guess we just have zero standards for journalists now and we make excuses for doing zero research on their subject.
Apparently to anyone except the person writing the story notedI don't follow recruiting super-closely but it seems weird to me that a guy has offers from Iowa State, Nebraska, and Missouri, and chooses to go to North Texas?
North Texas vs Houston in the NCAA title game next year. Book it.We’re losing recruits to North Texas? Is TJ out of gas?
Maybe he wants to play 1,000 minutes as freshman instead of hope for an injury to players in front of him to maybe get a couple hundred minutes.I don't follow recruiting super-closely but it seems weird to me that a guy has offers from Iowa State, Nebraska, and Missouri, and chooses to go to North Texas?
Agreed. He's not good enough to play in the Big 12.
I wondered if that's the case. The only thing about ISU in the meat of the article is that he had an offer from Iowa State, which is also obviously wrong, but maybe whoever writes the headline took that and embellished on it. Or hell, maybe it was AI. Still, pretty bad journalism overall.
I gave you a "Dumb" reaction. Not because of the post, but because JLH should never be spurned!!For the record I spurned Jessica Love Hewitt and chose my wife.
It certainly makes more sense that way...Ha. Screw it, I'm leaving it that way.
Wilma Blaylock. Bill is recruiting her.I don't follow the high school recruiting very closely, but is there a Will Blaylock, Jr out there?
We might end up with "Post Tamatic Spurned Disorder."Does being spurned cause scarring? Do we need some kind a salve?
You haven't done enough, apparently. This is coming from someone who had a 35-year career in journalism and for much of that time, was the guy who wrote the headlines. Yes, some writers may suggest headlines, but they are rarely used in my experience for a variety of reasons. If they were going in a newspaper, the reason might be the suggested headline didn't fit. If they were only going online, where they like to use a lot more words that someone might be googling, the reason might have been the suggested headline wasn't nearly descriptive enough.Disagree on that as someone who has done a fair amount of freelance writing. Depends on the newspaper/publication.
In today's NIL world absolutely nothing surprises me. Daniyal was recruiting him and wanted him so he told the collective to get him. That's how I assume it went down.I don't follow recruiting super-closely but it seems weird to me that a guy has offers from Iowa State, Nebraska, and Missouri, and chooses to go to North Texas?
Likely similar to how he transferred to a Prep School for his senior season of HS. The Valley bball team was stellar with or without him, so I don't think he really got to shine like he wanted. In today's NIL world absolutely nothing surprises me. Or
Curtis is betting on himself. Like one mentioned above, he is going to go and hang some stats at the Mid Majors this year then enter the portal and make more with a resume than he could out of high school. This is a different different world. The only ones who will survive are the rich and those who are able to think outside the box.
