Can't play at State/Beyer Sunday-Thursday from 6 to midnight due to intramurals. Can't play at Lied until 6 on school days due to the athletic teams get access to the courts (track).

You can't sneak in anymore, the state entrance has people plus monitors. Beyer you might get lucky but I wouldn't try it as there's only one person but also camera monitors.

Your best bet is Lied around 6-9 but it gets packed quickly so you better show up at 6. If you are there shooting by yourself you will likely get kicked off if it's very busy.

With intramurals going on, Lied is going to be pretty packed until prelims are done, which is another 2 weeks.

Or show up later. I used to play there with a group at 10:00pm or so and never had trouble finding a court.

Sigh. Reading this thread, you guys are reminding me how old I am, when I used to play pickup ball (and intramurals) at all of those places...not gonna say how long ago. :twitcy:

The lack of indoor courts in this town is a joke. City hall has open gym for about 2 hours everyday, but it's at like 1:00 in the afternoon. Really poor for a town of Ames' size.

I know you were meaning "lack of indoor courts available for public use" but there are a ton of indoor courts in Ames. They're building another 5 or 6 right now out in west Ames.

Sorry, this is what I meant. Any idea if the new ones will have public access?

Good luck getting in without a card. I suppose if you timed it perfectly and the people at the desk in Beyer weren't watching the monitor or able to see you could jump the turn stiles and get in. State Gym is basically impossible to get in without a card.
I think your best bet to get in without an ISU card is to go to the Beyer entrance. They have the turnstiles but I don't think they ever use those ones unlike the State gym entrance. Go to the desk and tell them you have a meeting or something and usually they don't care. There have been a couple times where I had a meeting in Beyer and didn't have my ID. I just told them I was going to a meeting and they let me in.

Your options for public courts in Ames are pretty much city hall and ames rac and fit.

The new ones in west ames I believe are all Iowa Attack so they will be private.

If you can find your way into State Gym the remodeling on the old facility is pretty amazing. Looks and feels like it always did but modernized.
