oh hell. I was thinking today was Thursday.
Man that is so young to be doing something like that. Not that any age is good but middle school is generally 5th through 8th grade.
Sadly schools are so worried about PR and protocols that they get in their own way of doing the human thing and getting the ****ing kid who did this out of there.
Last year at Ames High a fight almost led to one kid getting killed. Just heard of another fight again last week. The middle school has had their fare share of fights also. Also the Tripp St area behind H-Vee in Ames is the newest hotspot for violence, stabbing there a couple of weeks ago. I cringe everytime my wife, she works for an entity of the state on the waiver program. The horror stories I hear are just awful.

Update, waiting to pick up my son, apparently the second evacuation was a "miscommunication" by the police or school administration - jfc get your **** together. Student was apprehended already

It was a student that transferred in this year. Makes me wonder why he had to transfer from his previous school ...
They plan and they plan for this stuff but when it comes down to it, you need people in charge that can calmly and firmly take action. Unfortunately, not enough are built this way. Ugh. Glad yours is ok and the attacker was apprehended. Unreal.
To piggy back on this point, it's nearly impossible to know if someone is up to the challenge of handling a situation like this until they're in it. It's unfortunate, but I'd bet everyone involved was trying their best to do the right thing as quickly as possible.
