Two stage toro, great thing to have.

Stepped up to a 48" blade on my troy built lawn tractor. Chains on tires and wheel weights. Built in cup holder.

Only way to do the drive and sidewalk.

Parents had a single stage and it was ok as long as you had less than 4" and it was dry. Anything more than that and you spent more time clearing jams than you did blowing snow. They bought a 2 stage at a K-Mart closeout and it's been great ever since. 12" of heavy wet snow? Put it in 2 and just walk behind it.

For lighter snows they've got one of these: Amazon.com: Suncast SF1850 22-Inch Big Scoop Snow Shovel with Wear Strip: Home Improvement

Thing is really effective for snow up to about 4-6" no lifting involved. You just push the snow around and make a pile where ever you want

Toro snowblowers are made in Windham, MN, and I can assure you that they are not made by MTD.

I think this is what I have: Toro - Homeowner Snowblowers

I've never had to do this with my Toro. Even with the wettest, heaviest snow I've never had one clog.

Yeah they are expensive, but I'm pretty sure I could get back what I paid for it today, even after two seasons of pretty heavy use.

The freewheel steering is AWESOME. I don't know how people use snowblowers that don't have that feature. That and the chute control stick alone make the blower worth buying, IMO.

Am I turning into a Toro fanboi?

Guess you were wrong weren't you? If you look up parts, it is a better indication of who makes what.

My BIL works at the plant where they make them. I'm pretty sure they aren't made by MTD.

Toro snowblowers are NOT made by MTD - at least the 2 stage ones.

MTD namebrands some low end Toro models. That has been established. Not all Toros are made by MTD.

The facts seem to say otherwise.

MTD does make some Toro products - namely low end lawnmowers - but snowblowers - at least 2 stage ones - are made by Toro in their factory in Windham MN.

That's like saying that MTD makes John Deere combines because they also make John Deere riding mowers.

SOME of the lower ones ARE made by MTD...Your BIL DOESN'T WORK AT EVERY TORO PLANT, DOES HE?

How about the poster who said his MTD had a TORO label on its bottom? " My MTD lawn tractor is a toro, literally. If you life the seat there's a specs sticker that has Toro right on it. I think it's Toro, either Toro or Troy-Bilt. "

You might not know everything about this subject afterall, just because your BIL works at ONE Toro plant.

Not a single Toro 2 stage snowblower is made by MTD. They are all manufactured in Minnesota, at one plant, by Toro. I never said that other Toro products aren't rebranded MTD ones (or vice-versa) just not their 2 stage snowblowers.

He said his MTD lawn tractor is a toro, not a snowblower.

Edit: according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MTD_Products) MTD builds only low end riding mowers for Toro.

Show me where in this discussion where anyone has said that Toro 2 stage snow blowers were made by MTD as I guess I must have missed that quote. I said this:"I think if you look deeper into this, you will find that many, many brands of lawn tractors, even some John Deere models , and snow blowers are made in the same factory....MTD, just to different specs. Looking for parts, found this out "

Some of you are hung up on TORO 2 stage snow blowers that you are reading into this discussion things that weren't ever said.

In fact Toro used to make a piece of junk, single stage snow thrower, with a big wide, flat rubber blade. Crapped out from vibration problems after a year or 2 of use. So there is a discussion you didn't bring up, the discussion of Toro single stage. Want to attack that now with your misguided logic? GEESH

This is what I was referring to. We were always talking about snowblowers. No 2-stage Toro snowblowers, and I don't think any single stage ones either, are made by MTD.

I need to stop viewing posts from people on my ignore list.

Do I need to ignore your idiotic 2 stage hangup?

Um - this is just a thread about snowblowers. Let's keep it civil.
