Hey y’all after listening to the latest quarantine podcast it got me wondering if there were any other central Iowa clone fans who were planning on driving to Arlington who would want to look into sharing a LandJet. To be honest I don’t know anything about LandJet but from what Chris says it sounds like a pretty great option.

I went to their site to check on prices, but it’s not like when you request a quote on flights. Since I wouldn’t be able to go, I wasn’t going to enter my personal information.

I did see that there are (generally) five and eight person options. Good luck!

I won't be making this trip, but i was talking about this with a friend the other day. Would be curious what the per-person prices come out to if anyone gets that quote.

I sent in an email for a quote, its $400 to rent the vehicle, $1.50 per mile and $200 a night for a hotel for the driver.
So if that is the 8 person vehicle and you are going to Dallas that runs about $3300 total or over $400 per person. Not cheap for sure. And that is only one overnight. If you stay longer it goes higher.

So $400 + 1.5*(789 miles *2(roundtrip)) + $200*(2nights) = $3167 + taxes if my math serves me right, calculating mileage from Ames to Arlington roundtrip.

That would put it somewhere in the neighborhood of $3200. Quite a bit more then I was expecting even divided between 5-8

What are the perks of taking a LandJet vs flying on your own? My time in not sitting in a car for 10 hours is worth some.

I’m not sure that you “know” correctly, when several people share. Which I’m assuming is the point of the OP.

Do you see the quotes posted in this thread? Just did a quick search on Southwest - DSM to Dallas, leaving Friday/coming back Sunday - 5 people for a total of $1,755 after taxes/fees - and those are normal flight times.... So nearly half price to fly for a group of 5. MAYBE a group of 8 would be closer to the same, assuming the quoted base prices listed here don't change for a different vehicle.

Guess I did "know" correctly after all lol..

Based on this math, that would be $200/person one way. I would think a flight would be roughly the same for a one way ticket; thought I haven't checked. Plus, through Landjet, it looks like you get some better amenities than a flight.

Yeah I inquired as well but it was cost prohibitive. I can't imagine a trip like this isn't really their target demo so to speak. They are more of the need to get around the region while still being productive/connected but can't afford to charter a plane.

Took a Landjet with my team on a recent trip. They’re nice. Not sure about roadie to Dallas nice though. Also, do NOT put 8 people on the 8 seater. 6 max. Thank me later.

Well, if you compare five people to the eight they calculated for, I guess “nearly half” is how it works.

And what part of “not sure” did you miss?
And how’s that different than an airplane?
Have you flown lately? #1 would be, “Not dozens of people in an enclosed space potentially carrying COVID”.

Seems like this is comfort/amenities vs time
