KWWL's map had visibility possible all the way to Arkansas and potentially overhead here. I will probably forget to look.

What point do those of us in central Iowa need to get excited for? Are k8's sufficient enough to warrant hauling the family out to darker skies tonight, or do we really need to wait for it to hit k9?

Great year for America if you're into looking up at cool things in the sky. eclipse, this, what's next... could it be the throwback Iowa State blimp????

A REALLY bad one could cause electronic failures. But that would be the kind of civilization ending ones you can read about. You might be better off having a 6 minute plane ride to your "final destination" than get killed by chaos or starvation in a few months...

Most military stuff is hardened against these EMP type surges, but most civilian stuff isn't.
As always I hope this happens Sunday night if it's going to

The storm is stronger than predicted. Reached level G5. Very cool images of the northern lights coming in from Europe already

From Norway, I believe

That's amazing. Images like this brings sense to why so many cultures, including the Vikings since this is apparently Norway, lived by stories of their respective god(s) when it couldn't be explained by science like today.

If anyone on the north side of the metro sees anything promising let me know. I'm willing to drive north of Polk City to get away from the lights but only if it's worth my while.

Currently on a gravel road north of Ankeny. Can see it a bit, but very faint right now.
