I think the purists would disagree with you on that, it isn't a true run unless completely lacking in any and all attire. It isn't the windchill that does you in right now but the -15/-20 temperature. Not that I would ever recommend doing the run...in weather colder than 40 degrees.
The socks aren't just put on to fight the cold - shrinkage - didn't want to dissapoint the ladies.

With kids staying home, parents either have to take the day off or drive their kids to someplace where they can be watched. If parents are able to do this, they are also able to drive their children to school. This solves the problem with the busses.

Point is, where there is a will there is a way. Kids can get to school especially in urban areas.

This is only in cases in which parents have young kids and no older kids to watch them. Many students stay at home by themselves on days like these when it's age appropriate for them to do so.

Well I'm gonna be leaving to head down to SE Iowa in about 40min. I'll be outside a good portion of time once I get there. Maybe it will make me change my mind, but for now I still think the whole thing is poppycock.
