Had a similar experience there.

Drove a car, told them I would take it, wrote up the financing. Their finance lady was swamped, so we had to wait until the next day. They sold the car to someone else that the next morning, while I was waiting for them to get approval on the financing through GMAC. "Uh, good news though, your financing was approved, can we interest you in something simi-" CLICK!

No one close to me will set foot in there again.

No earnest money given?

I've bought from pretty much every import dealership in the area. As far as Sales (not service)

Best
Hummels Nissan
Wilson Toyota
Honda of Ames (before Lithia)
Willis Lexus, Cadillac, etc

Mixed results
Honda of Des Moines

Bad results
Ramsey Mazda-Just one experience and I liked Ramsey Pontiac so maybe it was just one bad apple.
Any Lithia dealership (audi, VW, Benz, BMW, etc)--Loved Jordan motors

I went in for Service on a VW after Jordan become Lithia and I swear the service staff was on suicide watch. I had two employees during one oil change tell me how much it sucked. Maybe it's gotten better since. I haven't been there in about 2 years.

Yes, there are no good Honda dealers anymore now that they both got bought out by bigger companies. I am so frustrated trying to buy a new car. All they want to do is play games.

You know who else makes nice cars? Wilson Toyota of Ames

I agree they are great people to work with sales and service.

However, the 3rd recall I received yesterday for my 2009 Toyota makes me question the Toyota product a little. Of course the frustration is I just had the other 2 recalls completed 3 months ago and then I get one yesterday.

My last Honda was from Jay Wolfe in KC. They offered me a better deal over the phone without even looking at my trade in. For my Mazda I went to Woodhouse Mazda in Omaha. I'm willing to drive two hours to save a thousand or so.

With the internet I just let them compete with each other through email. Makes it real easy when you don't have a trade in.

Bought an Avalanche from Karl, and I can't complain about that experience, it was all pretty up front, etc.

Honda, not that keen on, and Toyota of D.M. I'm at 1/2 was okay.

Oh yeah I nearly forgot about Toyota of DM. Terrible sales, good service.

Damn. I have bought my last two vehicles from Saturn, and the reason wasn't really the vehicle. It was the customer service.

My newewst vehicle is great. My kids affectionately call it the Bat Mobile, because of the black interior and exterior. One of the greatest features is the blue tooth system, allowing my kids to talk to Grandma through the steering wheel...oh, wait...:jimlad:

Seriously though, I'm going to be hard pressed now to find a good place to go for regular service/maintenance.

I think you have a ton of options. Probably 90% of the parts on the Saturn are the same as every other GM so you probably have at least 4-5 options in the metro.

Bummer. We ended up buying our Saturn Outlook in 2008 from the DM dealership because the Saturn dealer in CR was horrible to work with.
They shut the single Michigan Saturn plant several months ago. The Tenn plant was building other GM vehicles.

Sure, but will they give me a free car wash just for bringing it in for an oil change?

You can have mine. Mazda gives me a free car wash with each oil change and I never use it. There is no way one of those car washes with dirty brushes hitting the side of my black car.

They don't shine like this when you let others touch it.

Honda of Ames and Toyota of Des Moines are two dealerships that will never see my business. When we were shopping for a minivan, the salesmen at both places would not give me a firm price on the vehicle I wanted and made it like I somehow owed it to them to purchase a vehicle from them and that I was a bad person for shopping around.

Smart Honda (who I ended purchasing from) and Wilson Toyota both dealt with me honestly and were upfront about the prices on their vehicles. I would do business with either of these places again no question.

Lithia was the absolute worse car buying experience of my life. I will never go back and refuse to even service my vehicles (two Hondas) there. Toyota of DM might get another shot but why bother when Wilson is right here.

I have to agree on the ick-factor of Lithia. A little piece of me died when Jordan Motors sold out... Lithia was outright dishonest with me on a warranty issue. And one fateful day they neglected to reserve a loaner car for me, which they had promised. After I missed an appointment whilst sitting in their waiting area waiting for the MIA loader car, I found that that you really can clear out the entire shop by instituting a holy screaming war on the guys that sit at the little desks in the service bay... I had waited two weeks for an appointment with a loaner car. Not happy. [Understatement.]

Toyota of Des Moines couldn't work themselves up to offering a minutia of respect to me, which I assume is because I'm a chick and thus I'm supposed to be stupid and gullible.

I was Wilson's biggest fan in Ames ... until they forgot to put oil in my car when I brought it in for an oil change. And then tried to convince me that it really doesn't harm a car to drive it without oil. My lawyer argued otherwise. And until my lawyer's letter landed on Mr Wilson's desk, the service guys just kept telling to to forget about it.

I liked my experience with Hummels ... until we wasted about a week because the satellite radio wouldn't connect. Turns out they sold me a car without the satellite receiver, but told me it was there. Instead of making it right, they made me pay for the hardware while they 'donated' the labor. They may have gotten that labor, but they will *never* see another dime from me again.

And the Honda place in Des Moines was especially jerkish to us when we tried to negotiate there.

Wow. Typing this all out has painfully reminded me why I generally hate car dealers.
:skeptical:
Lou Walsh in Carroll and Bob Brown in Ankeny are the only two places I can say treated us with enough decency to make us ever do repeat business.
