Running Game

One thing I was pleased with last night. I am beginning to believe we are going to be able to run the ball this year with some consistency. UNLV's front line and lb's are no slouches and we ran quite well. These are the two best games I can recall in awhile in our ability to open holes for our running backs.

Going back to our long yards per carry conversation from last week, Stevie clocked in at 4.9. Which is right where it needs to be.

Let's hope that Hicks can keep up the momentum for the rest of the season. If he can keep his average around 4.9 and threaten for 100+ yds per game then maybe we can open up the passing game since the D's will have to respect Hicks. And if we can open up the passing game then maybe half of everyone's post will not be complaints about the passing game. So keep it up Stevie and Go Clones!

I thought he looked very good last night. I don't want to be a downer, but it looked like at one point in the second half he was holding his groin...I hope he hasn't re-aggravated whatever hampered him last year.

The theory goes the run game opens up the passin game. At ISU, it seems that the run game just causes more run game.

Hicks is never going to have that break-away speed outside, but man! When our line gives him anything for a hole, he'll stretch it into a 4 or 5 yard run.

I think the running game improved this past week from the running backs only. Where on earth was the running game from Meyer??

Hard to average 4.9 with your longest run at 10 yards. Hats off for grinding it out. Maybe we should call him The Grinder.
