Not sure about ISU, but you're right about Iowa. Iowa offered him as an ATH and was thinking of trying him at LB. MSU offered him as a QB.

ISU has a QB committed and no QBs graduating. I really, really doubt that Lombardi had a commitable QB offer at ISU. I'm sure they would have been happy to take him as an ATH. Kinda surprised he got an MSU offer, though. Iowa runs a similar offense, so they must see different things.

I am friends with someone who has coached him this past year, but I won't tell the sport. Says he is incredibly kind, fun to be around, extremely talented, but very lazy. Doesn't put in the extra effort. I hope he matures.

I wrote a story on Lombardi before last season and got the impression during interviews with both Coach Swenson and John Raridon that that was the case before, but that Lombardi had really made strides in that department last offseason.

Kid just kinda looked like a huge dbag anyway. So I'm fine with this.

I was reading some Facebook reaction posts to the article about him committing to MSU. A few people brought up his father acts more like a handler and is a pain in the rear end to work with.

I heard the same about his father. I know ISU did a personal workout with him about a month ago in West Des Moines, so we were still looking at him, but maybe we weren't all in.

IIRC his dad was a coach in some capacity at Cedar Rapids Washington but was essentially forced out because no one liked him.

I can see Dantonio telling the kid whatever he wants to hear just to get him on campus. I guess we'll see what he ends up playing.

The kid's dad might have a bad reputation, but it certainly shouldn't reflect on him too much. He comes from a really great family. Every single one of his siblings I've dealt with are incredibly kind people. His younger brother Beau could end up being an even better athlete.

How does Beau compare at same age? Saw him a couple times as an 8th grader

Beau is absolutely the better athlete, I knew both kids from them being around practices as kids. Beau would outrun some high school lineman as an 8 year old.

He's clearly a QB. And just as clearly one either of us would have welcomed with open arms.

Nope, both knew his dad was bat **** crazy and he is a punk. We had offered and so did Iowa but both saw him as a linebacker.

If these things are true, maybe the kid thought a little more distance from home could be a good thing. Plus MSU Football is pretty damn decent.

Dad was indeed forced out at CR Wash, and dad was a Hawk lover to boot
