technically they arent our logos anymore since we use I STATE now. or does it apply to any logo that we have ever had

I would think they're still the property of the institution. Iowa State still displays versions of the logo on their website.

Grinnell High School is similar to the Kansas State. But slightly different.

That is a pretty cool site.

Checking through the Iowa schools included there, quite a few derived straight from college helmets.

Norheast (Northwestern)
West Bend-Mallard (Michigan)
Waukon (Florida State)
Several w/ Michigan State
Etc.

Interesting questions (or not) --

1 is there any kind of trademark w/ helmets that are pretty much "generic" but steeped in tradition (such as Notre Dame, used by Heelan and Wahlert, for example) or do any arrangements apply only to logos?

2 Is there a difference between NFL-derived designs, and college, as far as trademark situations?

3 Bettendorf's helmet logo appears patterned after Pitt's old logo --- does a school retain rights even if it changes its design?

4 How "original" is "original"?

Sorry if some of this was answered elsewhere in the thread - -have't gotten that far yet.

Found this photo of the helmet pictured in the original message of this thread. Zoom in and you can see them real clearly.

Treynor in SW Iowa. They literally just took the bottom part of the I off to make it a T on the old walking CY. I also seem to remember the Jefferson-Scranton had the same helmets as the St. Louis Rams.

I could care less if someone uses our likeness, it happens everywhere all the time and ISU would come off really bad if they started cracking down on these high schools.

Not sure if Michigan has trademarked their helmet design but when I played high school ball Sioux City North had replica helmets just with the colors switched to green and white instead of blue and yellow.

North is red/blue.

West is green/white.

North is red/blue.West is green/white.

You're right, it was west. I just remember them not being very good, but they had cool helmets.
