RIP Joe Frazier

I'm old but I'm not old... I remember watching Joe Frazier against Ali when I was a really young kid. He was short in stature but my lord above could he throw a left hook. I remember him knocking the snot out of Ali and holding the belt for 4 more title fights until George Foreman knocked him stupid.
The funny thing is that I was fortunate to see Foreman fight live as the undercard for a Mike Tyson fight back in like "89. He was built like a brick **** house back in the 70's and 80's then I see him in the late late 80's and he looks like a tub of goo.
I remember paying like 125.00 per ticket to sit in the nose bleed section and seen between two fights, 4 minutes of action. My highlight was seeing Don King hug Arsenio Hall.. I have to honestly say that I haven't found two bigger tools since then!

Surprised me that there isn't any discussion about this on this site. THe Frazier/Ali fights were unlike anything any of us will ever see. The first and last fights are why we love sports. Truly great events if you ever get to see them. Two athletes at their absolute prime and they left everything they had out there, and honestly both almost died in the process. The descriptions of those two fights are not exaggerated. If Joe's trainer didn't stop the Thrilla in Manilla Frazier might be seen as the better fighter.
I met Joe once. I saw him at the airport about 10 years ago, I walked up and said "Hey Champ." He was surprised and said hello, shook my hand, and then he asked me to sit down and talk to him for a minute. I was just in awe. I can't even remember what we talked about. Who I was, how I knew him, what my dad was like becaseu I told him my dad told me all about him and we watched all his fights. When I walked away he said smiling "Hey son, when you see your dad ask him who won really won those 3 fights. He will know." Then he winked and I laughed.
Really a cool moment.
Guy was very kind, really a gentlmen. Rest in peace Joe.

As an avid fan of boxing, I recall how Frazier and other heavyweights were fearless: they didn't hesitate to fight each other to be "The Man". People can't think of Ali without Frazier and vice versa. Same thing with Foreman, Norton, Quarry, Chuvalo: they were ready to face anyone without making an excuse of drug test, revenue split, etc.
Glad that he was able to finally forgive Ali although I believe at least Ali should publicly apologize for the hurtful things he said to Frazier.

I think I was in 2nd grade when he fought Ali. At recess the day before the fight, all of us boys were pushing and shoving each other on who was going to win. I was a Frazier supporter
I found it interesting and sad that the big story in sports these few days should have been Joe Frazier. His death and life. Instead, even in death he is overshadowed by something in his home state. Penn State football sex scandal.
Guy never really got the credit he deserved I felt, instead of a statue of Joe in front of the Art Museum they put up a statue of Rocky, instead of celebrating his life, people are talking about Penn State football. Unreal.

Joe Frazier was my all time favorite heavy weight champ. Fearless, willing to take a pounding to deliver worse. A relatively small man. Three people died of cardiac arrest at the first Frazier-Ali fight.

Also, ESPN has an article that we've disappointed Frazier: a lot of people were more enamored with the glamorous Ali (nothing's wrong with Ali being flamboyant) while Frazier quietly did the business. This is a reflection of society: a lot of people tend to appreciate a "talker" instead of a "quiet warrior".
