Bummer! Quite a character and always seemed to be on our short list of desireables when Cyclone jobs came open. RIP, big Rick.

Sad, sad news. I loved his Utah teams and really loved when he'd call a college basketball game. Dude knew his stuff and offered a unique perspective about the game of round ball. RIP big man.

Sad news, knew he had been pretty sick for a bit now. Pretty sure it was due to heart failure.

Awful news. I loved watching his Utah teams. I would screaming at the top of my lungs for the 95'-98' teams. RIP Rick classy guy.

Sad news. Great coach and a funny guy. As a kid I remember him bringing Marquette over to Ames for, I believe, Johnny's first post-season team hosting an NIT game. Remember those red, white and blue balls? I digress.

A couple years ago I was shocked when I walked into Culver's in Marion and saw Rick and one of his assistants having lunch. After eating, I found myself standing with Rick while we each waited for our respective parties to use the restroom. I asked him what he was doing in Iowa and he said they'd been over looking at a kid at Marshalltown JC and were now on their way to a tournament in Wisconsin to look at someone. Then he just stood there and BS'd with me for about five minutes about nothing in particular. I mean here he was, a legend in the game of college basketball, no ego, just having a friendly conversation with some local yokel from Marion, Iowa. Just a real, nice, down-to-earth guy.
