I Might have a date after the clones game next saturday...any reccomendations?

Ive been to Legends once at night and it was fine from what i can remember. Where else is a good place to go? BTW, any strip clubs in Ames are out. I already asked. :biglaugh: Im kidding...eh not really.

One stipulation...I dont do seafood. Maybe i could just talk her into going to the dang game. Those BBQ'ed pork burgers are fantastic! However me yelling, screaming, and fist pumping for 3 hours might suck for her.

Recently went to the Okoboji Grill since they moved into their new location across from McDonalds on Duff. Food was very good and atmosphere too. Sports bar and grill type.

Hickory Park is ok, probably not a good place for a first date...lots of people at it can get loud at times. O'Malley MgGee's is pretty good, quiet and a good place to sit down and talk; plus, you can't deny the free nachos. The Cafe in Somerset is good, but kind of pricey. Another fairly good date place would be Old Chicago. If all else fails, King Buffet

King Buffet is tasty, but the practically toxic levels of garlic in everything might put a damper on after-dinner activities... :wink0st: And yeah, Hickory Park gets crazy loud on weekends, even when there's not a game in town. Great place, but I'd rule it out for this weekend.

I'm with throwittoblythe- if you don't mind spending a little bit, The Cafe is way classy and has amazing food. (It's really not that expensive; ~$15 for a dinner, which is about what you'd pay at Applebee's anyway.) Dublin Bay is about the same story. Olde Main Brewery and The Spice are both great places on Main Street.

It's not a dinner option, but if you're up/out past midnight, I highly recommend Angie's Kitchen, the new breakfast place in Campustown (near the Bali). It's a really fun, quirky place to go, with fabulous food and dirt-cheap prices.

I concur on Dublin Bay. It has enough walls and nooks that you can have a conversation at a normal "indoor voice" level. Good food, moderate price, adult beverages, and if you wait until a bit later in the evening (after an 11:30 game) there won't be as much of a crowd.

I wouldn't go to Hickory Park for a first date. I love it, but it is too loud for a first date.

O'Malleys, The Cafe, Dublin Bay would be better than the Okoboji/Legends/Old Chicago route for me on a date.

Not hickory park after a game, it would be a zoo.

Dublin bay might also be pretty busy since it is right on the way out of town.

I would suggest Omalleys, great first date place. Quiet, and has out of this world margaritas, plus really good food.

Or if you guys are really really hungry after the game like I usually am, take her downtown to great plains, get a small pizza and a pitcher of beer. You can easily sit there and chat for an hour for $20.

Plus you look good because if she is not aware of the pizza, she is impressed with your taste.

Hickory Park's always a good choice, but after a game be prepared to wait at least 30, if not 45 minutes or longer, to get a table. My wife and I were willing to wait that long and it's become Erin's favorite restaurant (which is unfortunate because we live 2.5 hours away). But seriously that place is so packed after a game (and most of the time anyway) that I would not recommend that place as a good place for a first date.

I tend to agree with the sentiment of Dublin Bay, however. That was my favorite restaurant while I was in Ames and is the one restaurant that I truly miss from my time there, mostly because the Quad Cities has nothing like it (and don't bring up either Kelly's or Pat McGuire's - those are Irish-themed American bar and grilles).

I'd say you also can't go wrong with Applebee's or Red Lobster (however unoriginal either of those two are considering the variety in Ames), Okoboji, Wallaby's, Great Plains, or any of the Chinese restaurants that you can find in Campustown.

Depends on what kind of date you want. Aunte Maude's, The Broiler, and Lucalan's are all really nice places, along with the Cafe. O'Malley's has nothing on La Fuente for Mexican food and margaritas and La Fuente is cheap. And of course Dublin, Old Main, and Great Plains are all good.

I would take her to a quiet, romantic place for a first date just in case it turns out well you will always remember it. And she may then want to go to Hilton bball games all year...

The last time I did not find the pork burgers at the game - just pizza and hamburgers - I missed the pork sandwiches. Probably why we lost to Oklahoma - they did not serve pork.
