I’m sure this has been discussed and I missed it but I’m extremely surprised we burned Herreras redshirt this year. I would’ve thought we wanted 4 years of him competing at Nationals. Maybe things a sign the coaches feel like Ross is coming to Ames

I do think we are going to have several options at heavy over the next few years. I actually think Carroll bumps up whenever bastida is gone with how awful he has been handling this cut.

I don’t think he’s good enough to do any better at heavy than he’s doing right now at 197 unfortunately. From what I’ve seen and watched of him, he’s not very diverse. He has a couple things he’s good at and he’s explosive and powerful, but that can be taken away when a guy weighs 250 pounds. He’s just a tweener and better fit for 97kg than anything

I was listening to a matscouts podcast to preview cklv and they said approximately 1 year ago Carroll weighed in for a tournament at ~260. So I wonder if on full feed he could be a legit heavyweight. But also unsure, he has been less than impressive so far.

You don’t have to be that diverse at HWT. Carroll was a beastly HWT recruit. You really think he would be losing to scrubs like the NDSU guy if he were at HWT? I completely disagree.

Also if true this makes him bigger than both bastida and Herrera so I wouldn’t call him a tweener in that regard.

Yonger just wrestled this past weekend so I assumed that means he’s good to go this year and no medical RS is needed
I would say this is inaccurate, I do not believe we see YB the rest of the year and he will MRS. I just don't see a scenario where he burns Peanuts RS if he was not planning on wrestling him the rest of the year.

When did I say that? Some guys like to put words in other people’s mouths to try to make an argument. He could probably be ranked 10-20 range consistently at heavy in my opinion if he got up to 240/245. Im not sure who would be better honestly him or peanut, id have to see them wrestle both as heavies to make an opinion. But right now id say peanut has the higher probability of being a multiple time AA at heavy

Good to know I’m excited to see Yonger back healthy and stronger next season. Rest up Yonger!

Quite honestly think a full strength Carroll beats Herrera very handily. Despite what we have seen this year from him.

Did someone else post this? Because losing to backup 184 pounders is exactly how he’s doing right now.

Carroll is just too big to be an effective career 197. He was a hammer at HWT. No reason to think he wouldn’t be good there. Not with his skill set.

This is 100% likely. It’s amazing how many don’t realize Carroll was an elite HWT prospect who only went down to help the team.

It’s a little wild people don’t seem to get that. Perhaps they don’t pay attention to past accolades or understand how difficult it is to cut a massive amount of weight and keep it off? 197 was never ideal.
