Someone convince me that there's anything left to hope for, I'll cling to any strands I can grasp.
Even with this it is probably unlikely but if we could have BIG football seasons (Conference Championship, possible Playoff) then maybe another Conference would think differently of us and want to grab us. That is probably still a long shot though.

ESPN has control of the ACC, it has about half the rights to the Big 10 and PAC 12, who do you think is driving this bus? The AAC gambit didn't work so let's try something else!

ESPN says, let's see if this makes the remaining Big 12 blink, call Mandel and have him write a story!

The athletic was forwarding articles putting the remaining big 12 schools to the aac.

I don’t speculate about legal arguments for free but people who are (very well) paid by ESPN to do so would certainly be able to do so.
I am sure the Big12 and it's member schools can hire elite lawyers also.

In the end, if this goes to court, it will get ugly fast. In part because UT and OU leadership had a significant conflict of interest. They were part of a small group representing the Big12 to explore the Big12's next TV contract. Simultaneously, they are having conversations with the SEC and likely ESPN to jump ship. They could have easily recused themselves and let another school president or AD be part of the exploratory small group.

Too many people on this board think that any post that isn’t about ISU’s ideal outcome is either being Debbie Downer or is stupid. UT and OU being a***oles sucks for all of us but those people are dealing with it with their own false reality. Sad to watch honestly.
So in other words:

You stayed at a Holiday Inn for a couple nights this week and are now knowledgable enough to be not only a lawyer, but psychologist. Good Luck

I'm not even flinching at that article. Nobody knows how this will all shake out so I refuse to stress about it.

This. The Athletic might be more reputable than other sports publications, but they're not above the "throwing poo against the wall" game. And Stewart Mandel is among the greatest of apes when it comes to poo flinging.

This exactly. If you read ACC, it means ESPN. They essentially own the ACC until 2036. The ACC isn’t creating an alliance with any other conference right now outside of the SEC.

It didn’t make sense, unless the fox and the big 10 network is selling to espn. The athletic was one of the media outlets pushing the remaining 8 to the aac at the beginning before bowlsby’s cease and desist letter as well.

the ACC’s locked together with espn. The sec is locked together with espn.

so unless this is the way they get these conferences to expand the playoffs to 12 with promises to give consideration to other conferences besides the 3-4 from the sec, it’s not logical.

But it will generate clicks for content.

Max Olson who covers the Big 12 for the Athletic is actually the one who reported the story.

I think it’s pretty clear that the Big 12 is being relegated to G5 status. Our athletic department will have to make some pretty hefty cuts. We will definitely lose Campbell in the process. This is the reality and an insight into the fate of the remaining Big 12 schools.

I think you need to go cook up another BS model to sell to ESPN. You’re leaving dollars on the table right now.

If we go to G5.... I suggest we cut all sports except for football and MBB.
