Has anyone priced out a contractor to replace a fuse panel with a breaker box recently. With my basement in demo mode after a water incident I'm thinking nows the time if any.

I'd probably want to add a few circuits and a number of outlets. I can do a lot of that myself, but I understand I have to have it signed off on by someone certified and maybe its easier to have them do everything.

As much as I laugh to myself, picturing you like that cat on Christmas Vacation, I would hire someone to do it. We had ours done 4 years ago and it was fairly inexpensive. Alot more inexpensive than doing it wrong and going to the hospital or burning down my house.

About five years ago I replaced mine. It didn't have fuses- it had breakers with an aluminum connection which evidently works ok until you do something silly like touch it, and then it's screwed. Replacing it with a new panel including new breakers (I also had them run a wire for me for a living room light) and the total was around $700.
