Any way that this increases Juiston's want to go to UNLV, since they will have more talent/better team/etc?

Guess the front court will be pretty crowded... Possible Juiston was waiting on this decision.

@BlueChipMiller Five-star Brandon McCoy joins four-star forward Cheikh Mbacke Diong as the second 2017 UNLV commit. Huge get for Marvin Menzies.

Regarding questions about why players would choose UNLV, it puzzles me a little, too. My only guess is "UNLV" apparently still has enough cachet to attract recruits (and maybe NBA scouts/talent analysts or whatever they're called these days).

Since the ’91 runner-up season, UNLV is 4-8 in the tournament, in eight tourney appearances in a quarter-century. The most-recent NCAAT win came in 2008.

So I did some research on UNLV's situation on twitter, and they have one schools remaining after McCoy. Also found a TCU commit Andre Rafus has been retweeting a lot of UNLV stuff, and looking like he will flip. So that would leave no available schools for UNLV, and it ultimately come down to Iowa State vs. DePaul. Wish are squad currently could play theirs and winner gets him:rolleyes:

UNLV is simply a program where they get recruits that could care less about playing on TV or winning basketball..It is simply a showcase for some NBA scouts that hang out there occasionally..thats it. Not to mention $$ influences....

Something about this recruitment process seems really weird to me. There seems to be a new school involved every week. First DePaul, then RI, then...??? Either Juiston doesn't want to come here or his handlers don't want him to come here.

Those schools were always involved.

Why the **** does a 5 star go to UNLV. Someone rationalize this for me.
They like one of the coaches or assistants or they were impressed with the work the staff did with a similar player to get him drafted or they are from the west coast and would play near family or they have friends on the team or they like Las Vegas or they want to be the guy that turns around a program or.... believe it or not but there are a lot of reasons kids go to schools that don't involve being paid under the table. There are a LOT of schools on the "why would you go there" list above UNLV.

I suppose you believe Mario Chalmers would have gone to Kansas even if they didn't give his dad a job?

He will get almost no exposure so he will be able to live off his high school hype even after a year of college and he'll get drafted high even though scouts will know almost nothing about him.

Eh, NBA scouts dont rely on tv to watch players. They go to games in person. A good player at UNLV will have easier access to NBA scouts than most programs. Vegas might be the easiest city to get to for any NBA scout.

RI was involved from the beginning. They just weren't talked about, because the focus was on us KU and UNLV, but they were always there.

Yes, he would have. He committed more than a YEAR before his father was offered a job. His parents were going to move to wherever he chose to play since they had zero chance of ever seeing him in person while still living in Alaska.

Mario Chalmers went to Kansas because Aaron Miles was going to be graduating so he was pretty much guaranteed to start his freshman year. He committed May 22, 2004 and Mr. Chalmers didnt get hired until June of 2005 when he mentioned to Self that he and his wife were going to be relocating to Lawrence and he was going to look into if there were any opening as a high school coach. And he got hired as Director of Basketball Operation, which is a glorified gopher position. DBO makes sure that the road hotel has the right video equipment, coordinates meals and makes sure they have diet cokes in Self's room.

A top 10 recruit doesnt go to a school because his dad will get to be a low paid errand boy. KU just landed the Lawson boys from Memphis because their dad was demoted to a low paid errand boy position.

Now Danny Manning, thats different. He doesnt end up at KU if Larry Brown doesnt have a long history with his Dad and hire him to be an assistant.

I have a hard time seeing big time influential handlers for a kid from Jersey, who was lowly ranked out of HS, and played Juco in Kansas.

IMO every kid has a handler. Parents, AAU, HS Coach, Family Friends, Girl Friends, Fellow Tecruits etc. A lot of people have a kids ear and influence where they attend college. A big-time handler doesn't need to be in the picture.

As people have previously posted, "handlers" can be anyone influencing Juiston, including family, in which case you have to feel good about Prohm recently visiting his family.

A recruit would go to a school because his dad would get a DBO job. That's not a low paying job
