Hawk fans are funny. Basically saying it was a weak instate class so it’s the old ol’ “we didn’t want them anyways” instead of the fact they got beat

Per 247 Iowa didn't offer Hawthorne. Whether that's because they genuinely weren't interested, or they didn't think they'd land him so they didn't offer is anyone's guess.

Well, Iowa also didn’t offer Will Tompkins, despite him having thirteen national offers from the likes of OL factory Wisconsin, Penn State, Tennessee and USC.

Draw your own conclusions.
By being less fundamentally sound.
That happens when one team has a solid coach who has been around for decades, at a program that has been solid for over forty years—versus a solid coach who is working to repair the damage of that exact same time period.

1979, the two schools totally reversed roles.

Matt Campbell is just about to put on the finishing touches of his reclamation project.

So ISU is going to turn the page and be more fundamentally sound in general this year?

I don’t know…Iowa hasn’t been all that great at evaluating OLs recently. I mean, you could argue that the best two OLs to play CFB in this state since Wirfs both went to UNI.
