Bo Zeigler has Iowa in his final 3 yet they have no 2013 scholarships left. Strange.

Yeah this would make no sense since Eric May is the only one that graduates this year and Peter Jok already filled that scholarship. Unless Fran is recruiting like Pitino and over signing and then kicking people off the team. Or maybe there is someone transferring from Iowa and it just hasn't been announced. I would imagine that it's supposed to say Iowa State. Also didn't someone just tweet Zeigler and ask if he was visiting Iowa State soon and he said Yes?

Even though we are down two scholarships this year (maybe 3 depending on Bubu) didn't Fred oversign by getting Naz? At the time we had only 3 open and used them on Niang, Dorsey-Walker, and Okoro. Naz was brought here without knowing that Sledge or Railey were leaving (though I'm sure Fred had a hint.)

Oversigning, IMO, is smart college coaching IF you know a player won't be here next year. Even though Fred didn't kick Sledge or Railey of the team, I'm sure he told them they won't ever see much PT at Iowa State and could be better off at other schools.

I'm pretty sure he knew they were leaving pretty early on. thus the no
Pt for either of them. He probably had a pretty good idea about rw too

We had 12 scholarships filled for the first semester of the 2011-12 season. The original plan when we signed Naz was to bring him in for the second semester to fill the 13th scholarship. Then Hoiberg decided Bubu was playing well and that the need for Naz to come in at semester wasn't necessary. So he put Bubu on scholarship instead.

We signed Niang and Okoro to replace Scott and Allen's scholarship. Then Dorsey-Walker was signed to fill the banked/13th scholarship. Then October 22nd of 2011 Naz was signed. So at that point the staff either was being proactive or they knew someone was leaving(railey/sledge/royce). Then they signed Bubu on December 29, 2011 but it was said that it was only a scholarship for a semester depending on how Bubu did. Then Bubu did well and was staying on scholarship for the 2012-13 season and Naz was still signed also. So really we were oversigned by 2 scholarships assuming Bubu was going to stay on scholarship the next season. So officially yes we did over sign. So yeah Iowa could be doing the same thing and could be in Zeigler's top 3.

Byron Zeigler has narrowed his list to Iowa State, South Florida and Providence via @ScoopIPS. The original information he released this morning was a typo when it said Iowa, it should have said Iowa State.

Any idea why Zeigler's gone from being fairly highly rated (like mid-50's or 60's) to being completely unranked? I didn't see that he was injured or anything... dropping over 80-90 spots seems like a pretty precipitous drop

It seems like we are making the top 3 or 4 of a lot of our prospects. I wonder when Zeigler will make a visit. Hopefully him and Vince Hunter can take a visit together since they are both from Detroit.

Has it been said when he plans to take his official visits and make his decision?

A rivals article from July 26th says he wants to make a decision before his senior season but he doesn't know if he will or not. I'm guessing things could change though in 2 months.

Agreed. I know the comparison's are often off base, but he seems comfortable on the dribble. I wonder if Fred could use Royce to bring him to ISU. 6'8" PF that can handle the ball and shoot, but also power it down low. I wonder if Fred has proposed that idea to him, would be nice to have Royce talk to him to help sway. He could go be another great player for UL, Syracuse, etc, or be THE player at ISU. Would be a huge get for fred and company, would help our chances with JTerrell as well.

So would you guys rather have the duo of Abdul Malik/Jared Terrell or Rashad Vaughn? Still sounds like they will be a package deal, that could of course change.

How about him, Terrell, and Vaughn? That would be an alright class!

Vaughn is a stud, but he is one and done if he wants to be. could have Terrell and Abu an extra year or two so that would be a better combo. But all 3 would make me slap a hoe.

Looks like Zeigler plans to make his decision on the first day of the early signing period which is November 14th according to a reporter from detroit.

TJ Kelley ‏@scoopIPS "@doschad: @NSchmidtA2 @scoopips any idea on when Bo plans to announce?" First day of the early signing period.
