Seems like I recall the banana flavoring used for most products is actually based on a variety of banana that doesn’t exist anymore. The Gros Michel variety went extinct around 1965, and the Cavendish variety is the current type of banana available to eat.

So, that banana flavoring you don’t like? An entirely different flavor from actual bananas we eat today.
I read an article a while back warning how easily bananas could go extinct because production is down to one cultivar and there’s no way of bringing the old ones back. Things actually got a little dicey when a farm in Central America had a fungus that completely wiped them out and containment was touch and go for a while.

I actually really like trying “craft” and classic or regional brands of soda.

Cola is the one category where most of them suck compared to big boy Coca Cola but I’d easily give RC second place.

Virgil’s is #1 cream soda for me. That brand seems to be growing like crazy. Orange cream is good too but rootbeer just average.

Frostie Vanilla Root Beer is #1 root beer. (Not really that vanilla) There are a ton of root beers better than big brands though.

Best lemon lime I’ve had is actually the Whole Foods 365 store brand. 7up and Sprite are absolutely terrible borderline undrinkable compared to this perfection. They are only 67 cents and I have one on my block. The Cherry vanilla is good too, like most the cola is terrible though.

I’m always blown away bananas aren’t grown domestically yet they are cheapest food in the grocery store. I guess it’s due to how quick they have to move them.

Grew up in MN playing hockey all winter at a park. Inside the warming house was a vending machine with RC Cola. So awesome.

I would occasionally get an RC from that Hy Vee gas station fountain machine just because I couldn't get it anywhere else.

Jester Park Golf course club house had RC and Sunkist on the fountain before they renovated everything.
