I read an article a while back warning how easily bananas could go extinct because production is down to one cultivar and there’s no way of bringing the old ones back. Things actually got a little dicey when a farm in Central America had a fungus that completely wiped them out and containment was touch and go for a while.Seems like I recall the banana flavoring used for most products is actually based on a variety of banana that doesn’t exist anymore. The Gros Michel variety went extinct around 1965, and the Cavendish variety is the current type of banana available to eat.
So, that banana flavoring you don’t like? An entirely different flavor from actual bananas we eat today.

The HyVee gas station up in Johnston had Righteous Cola (RC) on their fountain machine up until the pandemic. I used to get it all the time.
