Now that the regular season is in the books, and since we have time to kill until Thursday, I’m curious to know how you Cyclone Fanatics rate our best wins of the year.

Here are my top five, starting with the greatest:

1) @ Oklahoma State: We break the 18-game losing streak in Stillwater in the most thrilling way possible – a triple overtime win capped by a game-tying three in double OT from Naz Long, who had been in a slump from the outside until draining what was at the time the biggest shot of the season.

2) Oklahoma State @ home: The Cyclones make a furious comeback to erase a 16-point deficit in the second half. The league’s best shooter misses what would have been a game-clinching free throw, giving the home team one final chance for the tie and Naz Long yet another opportunity to break the hearts of Cowboy fans. He did not disappoint.

3) @ BYU: Iowa State proved it could win against a tough team on the road, and do so without three of its top performers in the final minute. Who could forget Daniel Edozie coming off the bench to block a potentially game-winning shot?

4) Michigan @ home: **** Vitale’s first visit to Hilton Coliseum was a memorable one indeed as the Cyclones knocked off then #7 Michigan with Mitch McGary. The win looks even more impressive today as a McGary-less Wolverine team went on to win the Big 10 Conference.

5) Iowa @ home: Never in history has Hilton Magic been more evident than in the Cyclones’ 85-82 win against their in-state rival, who was clearly rattled by the raucous environment at the free throw line in the closing minutes. Niang showed us he has ice in his veins by hitting a go-ahead lay-up to put the good guys up for good.

I'd put Michigan ahead of BYU. That win told the country to pay attention to ISU.

I'd put Michigan's win at #2 and slide the others down. The exposure we got with that win was huge, in addition to getting our season off on a good roll confidence-wise.

Oh, and in before:

Iowa is our superbowl.

That Michigan game was huge and has been paying dividends all season long. Rankings, national exposure, confidence, and so on all stem from that win. It didn't have the pure entertainment value of the Oklahoma State games or Iowa, but in terms of a significance, it is up there with the most important games we've played all time, not just this year.

This is a fun topic.

1. @Oklahoma State-broke the 25 year curse in Stillwater.

2. Michigan-this game put us on the national map. It bears repeating that the national media was all up in Iowa's business in the preseason and they were supposed to be the team making noise this year. The Michigan win got it going for us nationally this year.

3. Kansas State-we were coming off of our 3 losses and playing a tough, ranked team at home. Less mentally strong teams (i.e. Oklahoma State, Baylor) had situations like this and lost 7 games in a row. It was huge for Iowa State to get that win.

4. Iowa-Always fun to beat the Hawks.

5. @BYU-A big road win that gave people a lot of positive Iowa State talking points in the media

6. TCU-not really a huge game, but got Mel his Big 12 record and probably the game that gave him Player of the Year.

Well, ****, I got through this list before thinking of Saturday. I'd put it between 1 and 2 or 2 and 3. Not a super important game, but a big Hilton Magic game and I really wanted the seniors to go out on top. One of those I'll never, ever forget. And I'll probably watch the last 10 minutes of that game 10 times between now and Thursday.

Another fun thing about the ISU vs OSU match-ups was watching DeAndre Kane vs Marcus Smart. I love having the 18 game conference schedule which means these teams get play twice every year and seeing these player match-ups. It's great for the conference.

I'd probably agree with this, except, substitute TCU for EIU. Had the Hoks not floundered so miserably to end the regular season, I would have kept it there. However, Mel Mel's 48 pts - which would have been enough to beat most B1G teams on a given day - was priceless & probably solidified him as the POY frontrunner in the Big XII!! The EIU win's tagline is: "we beat an average team at home in December - nothin' top 5 about that" (IMHO).

Getting a "W" against UNI didn't seem like anything special since we were favored, but the game itself was one of the best of the year. The team looked really bad getting down by 18 points but showed a tremendous will to win in being able to climb out of that hole. Not only that, but giving up that game-tying three at the end of regulation would have demoralized most teams, but the Clones came out and scored 20 points in the overtime period. That part was truly impressive and convinced me this year's team would be among the grittiest we have ever had.
