It's a ******* calliope of gas leaf blowers outside. It's like the mating call of the fall lawn monkeys.

Last week there were six of them in one yard with a seventh driving the giant monster vacuum. Only like three or four of them today. These guys, even with ear protection, are going to be as deaf as Baby Ray in the Fifth Element.

Apartment or House for college, which would you guy say is better? I like my apartment but I'm considering getting a house for next year.

I was in a house with three other guys. Lawn to mow and snow to shovel. But you can make as much noise as you want (typically).

Thought my long lost fake ID from college. Well, it was a forged ID, it was real, just not me. Was a birthday present from the guys in Dana House acquired by some our Richardson court dormie girls. :)

Met Matt Blair this spring at an ISU thingy and mentioned how the last time I saw him (checking ID's at The Cave-In) that my name was Bruce and not Boxster. I also "used" to be a couple inches taller and my eyes "used" to be green.

For me it was whatever was cheaper. I never spent a lot of time in my room/apartment/house while I was in college. I was either at class, working, at the rec center, or at my girlfriend's (now wife). I rarely studied in my place of residence because there was always too much noise.

I had the most fun in:
1) dorm - met a majority of my friends here (of course everyone kept their doors open back then)
2) house - last semester in college, lived with friends, hosted a bunch of parties
3) apartment - too far away from things and missed a lot of "word of mouth" events

Does Ames have any regulations on how many people can rent a house? I thought at some point they were talking about a law limiting the number of unrelated people renting a house.

I think you can only have as many people as bedrooms. So 2 people 2 bedrooms not 3 people 2 bedrooms. My friends have 3 people in a 2 bedroom and one guy isn't on the lease while the other 2 are.

Kind of wish I had the opportunity to live in the dorms but at the same time a lot of my friends went to ISU so I don't really have a huge need to meet new people.

I'll be a little big brother-ish on this, but don't miss out on the opportunity to meet new people. You won't get another opportunity in your life to be around so many people your own age going through the same thing that you are.

The people I met was easily the best part of college for me. The people I knew that hung around with their high school friends didn't have the same experience. They got trapped in their own little microcosms.

Every new flavor of Mountain Dew is worse than the last. Only one I really like is Code Red and they had to go an **** that one up too. Now it's called 'Holiday Brew' half Code Red half regular.

Per the seasonal commercials that are now starting up, the only thing standing between me and a new Christmas present Mercedes (with a big bow on it) in the driveway is a loving spouse. Well, maybe a loving and well to do spouse?

A friend just did this for their daughter on her 15th birthday. Was a Toyota, not a Mercedes. Told my own to not expect anything remotely similar on her 15th birthday.

I think it depends on the landlord. I just keep remembering those students in the house that all had to get rabies shots because there were dozens of bats in their house.

This is actually a hot button issue in Ames at the moment. The state legislature changed wording this summer that affected the Ames rental code. Now they have to decide how to determine rental regulations--number of bedrooms (potentially +1), number of parking spots available, people per square foot. City wants it one way, landlords want it a different way.
