Probably like Clay and Guthrie counties here with county fairs in September - there’s an event at the county level, just not the fair.

The Clay County fair in Spencer is the same way. The 4H and FFA kids qualify in July for state. The Clay County fair is after the MN St fair.

Huh. I've been wrong all these years. I thought they had to "win, place or show" at the county fairs before moving up to state level (kind of like going to state in high school sports). Thanks for enlightening me. :)

It's actually way different. For livestock (birds, animals) there's no state fair requirement for showing at a county fair first, let alone finish top of their class (or whatever that show has.) For static exhibits, those in and perhaps just outside the 4-H building at the state fair, and communications events, they're selected at the county level according to ribbon and allocation (quota) provided from the state for each county. Best of the best is one way to think about it, even though some people don't always agree on "best." Like a lot of things.

I love wandering through the barns. Lew's grand-nephew has been showing goats for several years now; we've juuuuuust missed him the past two times we visited.

My far and away favorite is the draft breeds section of the barns. They are SO amazing! There's one person that brings a team of all black Percherons (my favorites) every year that are absolutely gorgeous,

When we were kids we went to a fair where they had sled pulling contests with draft horses.

Not exactly sure.
youngest got a weird conversation from me last night. He’s taking a college course and it looks to be hard. I told him to not worry about getting an A. I said clear a B of some sort and it’s all good. While it may hamper his scholarships, I told him that getting out a semester to a year early is a huge scholarship.

The schools guidance counselor is terrible. She’s pregnant and didn’t show up a couple days early to organize things. She’s leaving for Dr appts the first couple of days and not getting kids what they need for the college classes. If you can’t get your class access codes, you can’t log in, if you can’t log in, you can’t do the work. Our oldest was born the day before school started but my wife had the first 2-3 weeks all organized and everything lined up and ready incase she went into labor.

Yesterday, I drove a short ways from work to the nearest Target for a pick-up order. Drove without the AC on because less than three miles and I'm a glutton for punishment. When the doors opened at Target, I gasped at how cold it felt.

Now, can we get some rain? I'm in a less than pleasant mood, and I want the weather to reflect that, not threaten it.
