I feel for him. I had Mohs surgery on the bridge of my nose. That was not fun. Luckily for me, they only went back to grab more one time.
As I was growing up, my mom wore baby oil instead of sun block (which wasn't unusual). I've been diligent about sunblock for 25 years but the damage was done earlier and I'm having my 4th spot removed next month.
They got his on the first scrape...yay!
We all used baby oil back then. I'm fortunate that my skin has olive undertones, so I never really burned...just tanned really dark. And I'm also fortunate that my skin doesn't have that leathery look that many women my age have; especially the ones who were deeply tanned and were smokers. Most of those spent winter in the tanning beds to keep up their tan, though. Mine was just summer accumulation.
Lew, on the other hand, was a carrot-top in his younger days. Bright orange hair. His legs NEVER see the sun; they're white to the point of being translucent. Years of going shirtless outdoors have caused all of the freckles to kind of converge into a "kinda tan" look, but now the nasty spots are starting to appear. Several years ago I finally convinced him to start wearing a hat because his hair was thinning on the top and he was starting to get frequent sunburns there. Man, it is really tough to convince you guys to do things to protect your health!!!
Me on the left with my sisters (1998). I don't spend much time in the sun anymore.
