It isn't as though Dan McCarney didn't know that we would be breaking in almost an entirely new secondary and linebacking core. Maybe he chose to play the effective passing game of Toledo to give his team a chance to grow and see where the pass defense will be. UNLV also isn't a great team, but Rocky Hinds his a quality passer and they will have an effective passing game as well. I highly doubt Mac didn't consider this when the schedule was made.

We would probably LOOK better if we played Montana. We'll probably BE better having played Toledo.

I totally agree Bryce. I listened to the Soundoff after the hawk game with Zabel and Miller on 1040. They were even saying that the Iowa offense was very sluggish and that the new guys got a little challenge, but nothing that great. They tried talking up Montana, but anyone with any smarts knows that they didn't get tested much at all. ISU however got thrown in with a BOWL caliber team right away and survived. The other thing I had to laugh at with Iowa was that every caller mentioned some type of shot at ISU. These are the same fans that say it is our superbowl and they don't care about the game at all.
My thoughts about the Iowa game while I am at it is that our defense will be ready for them by that game thanks to Toledo and UNLV trying what we learned. Iowa fans are already questioning there offensive line and there linebackers. As long as we can win the turnover battle, we should come out of Kinnick with another win and another crushed national championship dream.

You are exactly right. I would have preferred not to go into 3 OTs against Toledo, but no doubt we'll be thankful about that come November when we're playing out the regular season. Having that experience under the team's belt is a good thing and only made ISU better.

True enough

I totally agree that winning a close one against Toledo is better than pounding a D-1AA team. We got the monkey off of our back (overtime) and faced a very good QB.

Iowa still has the home field advantage, which can be huge, but I think you will see the Clones improve more over the next week and a half than the Hawks.

So you are saying no talk of what I hear at Nebraska or Iowa forums is allowed then until the week of the game?

Bryce... nice post... we still got a win... and that game provided a lot of good game film for our team to look at to make improvements that we couldn't have gotten against a lesser team.

I thought we played UNLV this weekend, not Iowa...

I think he was just looking ahead to the Iowa game...he stated that we would be much improved in the next week and a half, which is how long we have till the Iowa game.
