Not true. The conference champion doesn't receive an a****id if no one at the weight class has qualified, but other than that it is the same as last year. And it is very unlikely that there won't be at least one wrestler in the conference per weightclass that earns an a****id.

Edit: No idea why auto bid is filtered.

Where did you hear this? I had heard that there would be no qualifying at the Big 12s, and that they would either get an at large bid or compete at a regional qualifier.

The Big 12 really needs to let UNI and Air Force come in for wrestling. I want an actual conference again.

We will get qualifiers as in the past, but if no one meets the qualification at an individual weight, the champion is not guaranteed a spot. It is very possible that all 4 125 pounders will have automatic qualifiers before we even wrestle the Big 12 tourney. With Patterson, Rupp, Waters, and Finch, if they perform close to their ranking all 4 will get auto qualifiers.

Some may be being overly cautious. Some may be how hard they are working. I think that we should be able to beat Old Dominion without Beard, especially if Shafer is filling in.

If the Old Dominion lineup looks like this, I think we are okay.
125 - Finch
133 - Jones or Terukina
141 - Goettl ??? (not going to be Mayfield)
149 - Weatherman
157 - Moreno ??? (heard Cozart will not see starting lineup anywhere for a while)
165 - Sorenson
174 - Spangler (I heard he will be back for this dual)
184 - Shafer ??
197 - Gadsen (I heard he will wrestle against Old Dominion, if not Shafer)
Hwt - Gibson (Not sure on this, hope so if not Christensen)

The week after is when KJ wants the full lineup healthy, at home against Oklahoma State on Friday and Oklahoma on Sunday. Then Iowa the Sunday after. He does not want our guys dinged up for those 3 duals.

Shafer or Christensen can not go 184 this or next week as they weighed in at 197 for the cyclone open. KJ had them bump up in weight for the cyclone open. I also heard that Spangler would be back for Old Dominion but not sure about Gadsen....pretty sure it will be Shafer. Maybe England for 184???? Unless England and Spangler wrestle off for 174 and England wins....then Spangler 184?
Wasn't Beard out with injuries the year before last also?

He was a redshirt freshman, so not sure.

Beard may not wrestle on Sunday but I really doubt a decision has been made on Tuesday especially when I was told the injury is a thigh bruise. 184 is one of Old Dom weaker weights so if Ward is ready or Shafer can get down to 184 then they don't need to risk further injury.

Not sure about Ward, KJ interview stated he wasn't really sure what Wards injuries were??? Heard he isn't quite down to 184 yet either. According to the rules, Shafer can not lose more than 2 pounds per week so would not be eligible to wrestle 184 this week or next. Christensen in same boat. They both weighed in at 197 for Cyclone open.

he weighed in for the 197 weight class, but his actual weigh in weight is what matters for the cut. Isn't he close to 184?

I don't know what he weighed in at last weekend, but someone said he was around 187 for the duals out east. Hopefully he didn't beef up too much and can make it down to '84 if Beard can't go.

I was told that goettl had a tear in his knee or ankle not sure and probably wont go this weekend. also told moreno wont be ready this weekend. Hope this was bad info. We could wrestle hallman or jones at 41 and terukina at 33. Hope ward is ready if beard is out. I was also told that weatherman was just out for precautions but who knows a not having a wreslter at a weight will be a hard 6 points to overcome.

Either we are the unluckiest team in the world or we need to start questioning what is happening to make us so injury prone.

Amen Judoka! Why indeed? Too many kids sucking too much weight? What is going on in the wrestling room? Some of the injuries might be due to just plain bad luck but certainly not all. Then you have the concussions at the duals.....:skeptical:
Heard Shafer and Christensen were both about 197 at the Cyclone weigh ins. Shafer is about 200 now and Christensen probably more than that naturally. Don't think it was easy for either of them to get down to 184 and that is why I don't think Ward will be able to hold that weight either. Beard is naturally right around 184. Heard Gadsen was 230 just a few weeks ago, not sure right now how much he weighs.

Some injuries are preseason.
Gadsens' is from FILA Nationals that he won
Spangler is from right before school started
Ward and Simonson are from last year

Concussions (Cash, Moreno, Mayfield, Aaron Sorenson, Tan Weatherman) are from just going hard and bad luck

Beard is a thigh bruise.
T Voelker and Goettl - I'm not sure what their injuries are.

Simonson, Spangler, Gadsen, Geottl all had surgeries. Voelker is battling a knee injury and had an ankle injury and concussion a while ago.
Mayfield looked banged up at the cyclone open and was moving real slow. May be a while before he comes back.

Haven't heard if Beard is planning to wrestle this week or not. Maybe a wrestle off between England and Spangler could happen and winner choose 174 or 184 this week and the other wrestler gets the other weight.

Pretty sure Shafer is going 197 on Sunday. Not sure if Gibson back, but listening to KJ's interview sounds like he is back on the team...just a guess.

WrestlingWatch,
Is there a recent interview or is this the one from Harold Nichols Open?
