Promoting Messingham to OC was a mistake

I do not like our offense that much right now and I was hoping for something different when Mess was hired. I just could never understand in coaching when something works stick with it until it does not then make adjustments to accomodate the right scheme for the next series. That is what happened in the 3rd quarter when we scored a touchdown and then we went right back to what was not working. It was confusing.

THE problem is the same ole story... the offensive line. We need better lineman. I remember hearing about the type of lineman Herman wanted for his jet tempo offense would be tall, relatively speaking lighter weight lineman. Is this the right fit for a run first offense? Until ISU figures out what its offensive identity will be and determines the correct lineman for this style, it will not matter who is/are the OC, QB, RB, or WRs. We will be at a disadvantage. Seneca Wallace was an unbelieveable quarterback, probably the best we have ever had, and with our traditional lack luster oline, could do no better than 7-6 & 6-7. Think about it.

Ok... I'll give you that. So who's fault is that? Why don't we have someone in our two deeps at QB that doesn't turn the ball over 3 times a game?
Because the other QB's would be playing behind the same line, and throwing to the same receivers, against the same defense? Duh!

What's with your whole "blame" thing? Everyone has said the whole team is to blame (though I might except Kirby Vanderkamp), even Wally says his defense made mistakes. So, according to your "logic", hiring Wally was a mistake, too!

Or are you just trolling?

Do people really think that we need a different style of offense? I understand that we need to establish an identity, and maybe even do a little better job of finding athletes who purely fit that identity. But as a whole it's not a situation of this style is bad and this style is good. If it was, then it would only be pro-style teams that win national titles, or pass heavy teams, or spread option teams, but it's not, instead it's just a collaboration of teams with different styles and systems. I too am disappointed in our offense, but I refuse to suggest getting rid of the zone read. Instead I think it's simply a matter of better execution, different play calling, and a better established identity.

I think they have it figured out. The problem is that CPR's OL recruits are almost exclusively sophs, redshirt frosh and redshirting frosh. Not a recipe for success in the B12.

Well that's just plain false. Barnett and Devondrick were in the game with 9 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

You are right about that, but unfortunately not right about our offense not being good in this game.

Rhoads was not pleased at halftime with our offense against WIU. Neither was Ben Bruns. We still had 3 turnovers against that horrible team and they didn't turn it over at all. Shot ourselves in the foot time and time again.

Problems begin and end at Bill Bleil IMO

But every single year Bill Bleil and Paul Rhoads both say how awesome and deep our OL is! OL is the most hyped position on the team every single year going into the season.

After we win on Saturday with a solid offensive performance in bad conditions I could see this thread being bumped.

But yes, it's looking like a horrible decision to promote him so far. 1 TD against a crappy Iowa team and 1 TD against Tech at home at night is embarrassing. It's pretty obvious Tulsa doesn't play any defense and we never imposed our will on a bad Western Illinois team.

I remember being really down on Tom Herman in 2010 after the 52-0 loss @ OU but the next week ISU came out and executed a lot better and got the win. I see a similar outcome this Saturday.

I hate to tell you they weren't this year and the running backs and linebackers were but that'd clash with your conspiracy theory.

Reading comprehension must not be your strong suit. I bolded the part of your statement that I said was false. You claimed "that we couldn't even sit our starters until well in the 4th". I bolded that statement and told you it was false.

Where did I say our offense "was good"? Much like your original post, the post I'm replying to is full of fail.

In other words, the defense forced no turnovers. So again, where is your "Fire Wally" thread?

Western Illinois was not a good offensive game. We couldn't even sit the starters until well into the 4th quarter.

Our offense currently ranks 90th in the nation out of 120 teams. If you like that, then so be it. I guess you have low standards. The defense ranks 18th. Without an 18th ranked defense, we'd be in a world of hurt right now.

Were a defensive team. If baylor and west Virginia didn't have such good offenses, they'd be a world of hurt too.
