TJ can go try to land a job like UW-Green Bay...

Unfortunately he got sidetracked on there way there and hung out to dry in the process (job got filled did not get the ISU job) but he will land on his feet.

Certainly a double edged sword. I think there is a lot of work to be done and it would help with team chemistry, but also a sense of having a backup QB complex that just might not be workable.
Yep. TJ being back on one hand may enhance team chemistry, which in itself could lead to some bad team chemistry.

In some ways one would think Prohm's tenure will greatly benefit by TJ being his first recruit, and if so would work out well. However, details like this are major components in vetting a candidate's plan on how they will win at ISU, and for it to be unclear to insiders at this point makes you doubt it.

A dream staff imo would be Prohm, TJ, Tim Fuller, and a Prohm guy/mentor or Grayer.

Everyone is so worried about keeping TJ for recruiting. But if I recall correctly, a majority if not all of the significant recruits we have at the moment are Mann's. Imo keep Mann over TJ.

Are you recalling correctly? Does not seem so. Mann has zero recruits to keep at the moment, and only one guy on the roster. You can't "keep" recruits.

If you are alluding to Bridges, a long-shot, might as well go with Grayer over Mann. You don't retain coaches solely for single long-shot recruits.

I think Mann was also recruiting Tyler Cook, although I think Fred was heavily involved. It will be interesting to see if any of these 2016 guys still give us a look.

Bridges is unlikely, but I could see Cook and/or possibly Coffey looking at us some more.

Getting way ahead of myself, but Tim Fuller was at Missouri for awhile and recruited Cook.

Or, we could hire Michael Porter Sr, also well connected in Missouri, father of 2017 stud Michael Porter Jr, and bother-in-law to former ISU WBB assistant Robin Pingeton.

Or, maybe better yet, hire Justin Tatum. A big St. Louis guy, played at hometown SLU with Larry Hughes. Coaches at CBC in St. Louis, and is the father of 5-star 2016 point-forward Jayson Tatum.

I'm going to go ahead and be excited about the hire. It won't always be smooth and there will be growing pains along the way but a loaded, veteran roster should ease the transition and give us the bounce we need to fill some huge holes going forward. If all parties agree that TJ stays on then great but he is not the only assistant in the recruiting game. I'm now convinced that all the uncertainty surrounding Fred's future was holding us back on the recruiting trail much more than we knew and feel we can attract good talent without that hanging over our heads.

We thought we had the our Coach K but he had bigger aspirations and moved on. Hornacek sounded great in theory but once Fred left the fact is the perfect candidate doesn't exist. No doubt there is some risk involved with this hire but he comes in highly respected. I hope we get to experience under Prohm what Fred said he was going to deliver. God knows we deserve it.

It's a tough situation for sure. I heard Chris say that the NBA talk had started behind the scenes pretty much right after the season. So it sure seems to me that when TJ came back he knew that there was a good possibility of Fred not being around next year.
. Personally if I were prohm I would swallow ego and bring him in like Fred did and say: "I'm not sorry you didn't get the job but I do feel for you and I really need you. Can we both put our egos aside and work togethor for least this year. For those guys?? Fact is with you here we are better next year I know you love Iowa State and I want you to.have an opportunity to succeed here or elsewhere. Let's win a National title and then you will have many good jobs to choose from. 500k and associate HC job is yours if you want it."

I think Prohm put himself in the perfect situation. With this top ten roster, if Prohm can take this team pretty far (Final 4) then he won't have a difficult time recruiting for the class of 2017. I'm guessing the 16-17 and 17-18 season might be 20-22 win seasons (which are okay, but not as good as the past few years), but I think he can flourish after that as long as he has a fantastic season this year. Tons of pressure, but if he can handle it he's going to be rewarded handsomely.

Even Moton from NC Central is giving us lots of love:

LeVelle Moton
@LeVelleMoton In a business full of sharks, there is Not a better human being than @CoachProhm. Iowa St you got a great coach.

I'm guessing that after all the support and prayers our fanbase gave him and his family after his son got burnt badly has turned him into a big ISU fan. Hopefully this guy continues to be an ISU supporter and I hope he gets offered a better job really soon. He deserves it.

Well he didn't have to cancel those interviews, or come here as an assistant first. Honestly I don't think he's as stupid as some of you make him out to be.

Im on board with this hire 100%...both for our current roster and I believe Prohm will have success getting guys to Ames. Will be interesting if the "transfer u" thing continues.

I'm also reminded....many of us (me included) at times got frustrated at our lack of urgency in some games and, at times, in game management by our young head coach...maybe the "growing pains' of Prohm will also mean gains in other areas?

I like that this team is hungry to win.

Regarding the TJ situation, it would be a difficult one, but that really depends on the personalities involved. I haven't seen many good leaders that were afraid of having quality people on their staff, even people good enough to do the head job. It all comes down to being confident in your own abilities and being able to work with people who also excel. That leaves the question of how Coach Prohm wants to build his staff.

Whether TJ wants it is another question. I hope he does, as he is a very, very good assistant and a future head coach somewhere. That would make the transition quite a bit easier. I'd really want him to be in it for a few years though, as 16-17 is critical and whoever recruits those kids has to be solidly on board.

4 - Don't anticipate any transfers out of the program, at least based on initially discussions with some of the players.
Does this include GT? Is he still in Greece, and did they teleconference him into the meeting last night?

That's a big loss for recruiting if TJ leaves. He recruits he Midwest and Prohm has no ties to the Midwest. Also he's never faced the big 12 schedule which TJ can help in game planning.
I can see players being really mad if none of the assistants are retained. I also thinks it hurts recruiting for next year because the relationships and offers to guys are pretty much meaningless and they are starting from scratch. Not a good place to be in.

Many have said we need to keep TJ for one year to recruit the 2016 class. Hopefully he recruits a high enough caliber of player so that if he gets a mid major head job after next year they won't all follow him to his new job. I don't know if it's a good idea to have everyone know your lead recruiter is going to be gone before you get to campus.
