I'd really say that all depends where each individual is in their own life. You can say that for yourself, but for those just a few years away from retirement, that is not their concern at all.

No, I'd still be more concerned with my current paycheck and losing it 2 years from retirement. It'll be real tough making ends meet if you can't touch that retirement fund for a few years and living off unemployment.

Right now the phrase "just be glad you still have a job" should hold some meaning to everyone regardless how "safe" you think your job is because in this economy I don't think anyone can make that assumption. I've known people at my place of work that have been laid off and know that it could have easily been any one of us instead. When they handed out the raises this year, despite it being the lowest I've had in over 5 years with this company I just said "thank you" to my manager because anything was better than nothing or not even having a job.

I agree...you don't have much to complain about with only taking a pay cut. The fact that you still have a job puts you in a much better situation than a lot of people in this country and around the world.

Architecture sucks...

I second that emotion, sitting in the reading room at the 42nd street NYPL whiling away the day again...the last two firms I was at here in the city are down over 50% staff, and nothing new in sight. Architecture sucks...
