I mean, I'm not trying to be condescending to the Iowa Women's program, but since they were not in the top 25 in the other two polls, I deduced that it must have been a typo.

I'm not sure what makes everyone think that Iowa will be so bad. They've made it to the NCAA tourney two years in a row, return the majority of their team, and have very good guard play. I can see them getting a preseason ranking from some publications.

And, with ISU losing their do-everything point guard, they have a lot to prove before I am sold on them being a top team. I am confident in Bill, but point guard experience is tough to replace.

Texas continues to be overrated every year, they continue to be ranked because of their coach. Nebraska is not a top 25 team, they lost 50.7 ppg in their senior class. The rest of the B12 rankings look good.

Aren't most preseason polls mostly ranked on the teams finish of the previous year. I too can't see Nebraska being a ranked team. Unfortunately, I think they look at Iowa State and see a good ship without a captain. We need one of the starters to step up and by a leader. I do think the PG is Coles to lose. That being said Jess or Mansfield should be right up there. I think Jess has the personality to be the leader as a sophmore. SG will be Harris and we are going to love her. Think Heather Ezell with better moves but the same 3 point shot. I wish BF all the luck this season. Go Clones...

I'm actually mildly surprised the Sisters are picked as high as the 17th/18th range, considering how much the loss of an impact PG can mean ... but the young talent can only get better, so it's possible.

Plus, ISU is bound to get the benefit of the doubt, because credibility points tend to come with consistent success.

Hello, men's program? I'm talkin' to you here!

What record does everyone predict for WBB this season? I haven't really assessed the schedule yet.

I don't see any reason why we shouldn't be ranked. Honestly, everyone loses PGs, we have before. Was Aus a huge loss, yes. But that is college ball. Seniors leave, younger players have to step up. In my opinion, ISU has one of the best front courts in the country with Prins, Pop, and Z. Definitely, the 2nd best in the Big 12 behind Baylor. Be curious to see how much Hallie contributes this year. Bolte will be back at the 2 or 3. Harris could be at the 2. Jess Schroll could play anywhere in between 1 and 4.

I was cleaning off my DVR and re-watched the last 5 or so minutes of the Green Bay, Schroll was tremendous in that game. She was aggressive, didn't play tentative and was tough on the defensive side. I really see her taking over for Denae in the starting line up, and she gives us the added benefit of being a better scorer than Denae.

A lot of times they are based off last year's results and what you have coming back. My problem with Texas, they lost Brittany Raven who was their "go to" player, and they lost in the NCAA tourney in the 1st round on their home floor.

We need to see Kelsey Bolte step up and be THE leader of this team. She's a four year starter, and it's her team. If the can be the leader on the floor, we'll be ok, but we can't have her not show up for games as she has done from time to time in the past.

She had a reputation for that happening during her first two seasons, but last year she seemed to show up for pretty much every game. I was impressed by her improvement last season.

She did improve last year, but she still had game where she disappeared completely. The Green Bay game showed what changed...she disappeared but kept fighting through it and helped us pull out the win.

I've been very vocal that I think Jess is a prime candidate to play out top this year. She was the ONLY slasher we had last year. Lacey made drives to the basket, but Jess was more like a stiletto cutting through the lane.

Show me where in recent yrs 2008 and 2009 did Iowa finish high in the big10+, get to the first round of the NCAA, lose, and were ranked at all ever. Show me I am wrong.

Maybe this yr as even a blind squirrell will find a walnut someday.

She finally learned you can do other things than score last year, especially when teams were keying on her. Her defense improved tremendously last year.

I think she improved, and is being looked to to improve more. But the real question to me is, who is 'go to' when the shot clock is running down? I don't expect Bolte will improve her dribble drive enough to be that player, but hopefully she adds to her offensive options and is less predictable to defenses mid shot clock. I'm sure that'll be one of the main questions the coaches look to in practice, who can create a good shot for themselves or someone else as the shot clock goes down. If we can find some ability there, we won't miss number 4 nearly as much as we now think we will.

I think that'll be Schroll. From Monday's call-in show it sounds like Bill's expecting a lot from her this season.

I agree, by the end of the season. I'm thinking they won't want to put too much pressure on her at the beginning. Hopefully the PGs will be ready to dribble drive enough to break the slower defenses we'll face early on. Call Jess's number a couple times a half and let her build her confidence and keep turnovers low.
