Sorry if someone already posted a like-thread, but does anyone have any predictions for 2008, Cyclone related or otherwise?
I predict a second year of having my townhouse for sale in Ankeny with no takers.
Also think that the 4A HS football champ will be from Central Iowa.
And, out on a limb, we go bowling in '08.

call me crazy for thinking the same, but I think we will be in a bowl game this year...but not that great of one, turnout will still be amazing nonetheless because its Chizik's first of many bowl visits with the Cyclones. And wherever it is (even if its in Detroit), god knows I will be there.

I don't think it will be that good of bowl either, but I'll take anything after sitting at home for a couple late Decembers.

I am thinking Shreveport or Houston again. Low-end bowls we could sneak into with 6 or 7 wins, depending on the strength of the Big 12. Be nice to get 2 top teams into the BCS next year to help us out. At least if we wind up at the Independence or Texas Bowls in 2008, I can actually make it this time (i.e., short drive!). Drove to Shreveport from Ames with my friends in 2004...long haul for that one.

I think we will make it to a decent bowl. The 08-09 BB team will be much improved an have only one loss going into conference play.

Non-Cyclone stuff. There will be a drought scare with corn over $6.00 and beans pushing $16.00. Alternative energy will suffer a setback.

I'm not optimistic enough to think we'll be in a bowl game this year, even if it is a crappy one. Just too many areas we need improvement in and even a weaker schedule won't be enough to off-set that.

If we did go to one, I'd much rather it be Houston than Shreveport or Detroit. As much as I like going to a bowl game not sure it's worth the money to go to another cold city like Detroit and Shreveport was such a dump that 1 trip was enough for me that I'm not sure I want to ever return there again.

Looking back at 2007 football predictions...

3-9 3%
4-8 12%
5-7 28%
6-6 35%
7-5 19%
8-4 5%
9-3 3.64%

So more people thought we would go 9-3 than those that thought 3-9.

My prediction is that Hawkeye fans will tout preseason predictions in football of 10-2, 11-1 or at worst 9-3 and finish much below expectations as usual!!!

Its realistic to expect 9-3, but I think we go 7-5 instead and go to a better bowl than Shreveport.

We will have a president-elect for the first time in 8 years...

(yeah, I know - way to state the obvious).

I think the WBB team will start their ascendancy towards the elite teams, with much work still to be done.

I predict we'll have numerous threads with this question being asked:

"Does the football season ticket counter include the student tickets?"

Let's see how I do.

The average temperature in 2008 will actually go down from 2007

Chrysler will get bought out

The hot thing in automobiles will go from hybrid motors to diesel

The dow will end 2008 at 12,750

XM and Sirius will be approved for a merger

Directv will finally carry local channels in HD

Big 10 network will agree to a contract with Mediacom. Mediacom will put it on it's main tier but at a big discount.

Blu-Ray will have a dominant share in the HD war

Missouri will win the Big 12 north football

Oklahoma will win the Big 12 south football

Obama will be elected president

Iowa State football tickets will go up at least 7%

One more-Divisions1 (Probably Iowa but possibly ISU, unfortunately) 2, (Upper Iowa) and 3 (Wartburg) wrestling titles are won by in-state schools.
Kind of a stretch with D2, but I thought I would go all out.

Thought it would be a good time to do a mid-year check on my predictions. Some haven't panned out so well.

Let's see how I do.

The average temperature in 2008 will actually go down from 2007--Still up in the air

Chrysler will get bought out--Not yet

The hot thing in automobiles will go from hybrid motors to diesel--Not going going to happen with Diesel prices so high

The dow will end 2008 at 12,750--Very unlikely

XM and Sirius will be approved for a merger--As of this week

Directv will finally carry local channels in HD--Likely

Big 10 network will agree to a contract with Mediacom. Mediacom will put it on it's main tier but at a big discount.--Who knows

Blu-Ray will have a dominant share in the HD war--This has happened

Missouri will win the Big 12 north football--????

Oklahoma will win the Big 12 south football--????

Obama will be elected president--Most likely

Iowa State football tickets will go up at least 7%--Per game they went from $50 to $58 which is a lot more than 7%
