I hope Utah is patient with him

He's an outstanding coach and a great human being. Won at freaking South Dakota and rebooted Utah State to what they are now after a bad hire after Stew Morill. Just hope he gets the opportunity to turn it.
I agree, he’s a good coach. But the AD and the boosters just don’t support basketball there like they need to in order to compete. He just has nothing to work with. Honestly I think Utah is in trouble overall. They want to support football but really don’t have the NIL to do it compared to BYU.

Students won't be back yet, hopefully some bought break tickets.

What the French toast!? They don't start until January 20th. They had 4 full weeks of winter break(!!!)...

That's ridiculous.

Back in my day I swear we only had 3 weeks.

Yeah it was around 3 weeks or soo when I finished up, under qtrs (Yeah I'm old) It seemed like it was a couple of weeks off between each qtr but I really can't remember that accurately.

Thanks, was wondering about this. Old man comment: Seems like break is so much longer than it was when I was in college.

COVID caused Fall 2020 schedule changes at the 3 Regents institutions. That led to initiating a 4-week winter term, beginning the Monday after December commencement. The winter term now provides additional tuition revenue. So spring classes now start on the Tuesday after MLK Day. I believe the fall and spring semesters are still the same number of days.

Not necessary, as the students are still out on break. The lower (parquet-level) sections of Cyclone Alley had tickets sold as general admission, but all other student section tickets were sold to the general public as assigned seating.
You sound like you’re in the know;-), so does this mean the lower level sections of Cyclone Alley were offered to students as general admission first, and we can expect the students to fill those two sections behind the basket as many undoubtedly would have bought KU tickets, or was it sold to the general public at large?

Snippets from the ticket site:

"Iowa State vs Kansas
Wednesday, Jan. 15

This game does occur during the University's holiday break. However, we anticipate this game will be a popular game for students able to attend.

A limited number of tickets will be held for students who purchased the all-sports package.
Priority to claim a ticket will be given to students who attend the first six games [listed above]. The more games you attend, the greater your chance to claim a Kansas ticket.
Beginning Monday, Dec. 16, an email will be delivered [by priority group] for students to claim one general admission student ticket.

How to enter and where to sit:

Entry will be at the north doors only, similar to a regular game.
Please plan to arrive and enter with the students you wish to sit with. Note: any individual without a ticket will not be allowed to enter.
Students will be instructed to sit in specific general admission sections. These sections will be determined following the last non-conference game."

For other games during break, this lone section has been the only student allotment:

Not sure which sections will be designated as GA for students attending the Kansas game, but all other seating in Cyclone Alley was sold to the general public with reserved seat assignments (as I understand it). I don't believe it is a typical "oversold" situation where students have to camp out in fear of being turned away at the door, but I'm sure some will still do it to get the best seats in whatever GA sections they end up designating.

This is all new info to me. So there are some students there now?

Seems odd. You'd think traditional students (2 semesters) would much much prefer a shorter break over holidays and get done earlier in the spring to have a jump on summer employment and a longer period for that.

like the question on Hilton, but man, the loudness just isn't the same without all the students there.
That's playing a big part but also that they're too good, the games haven't been competitive so there's no real reason for the crowd to ramp it up to boost the team.

As for Craig Smith, I didn't know much about him when he went to Utah State then saw him interviewed a couple of times and he came across as a very likeable guy and he's a good coach to boot. Utah should be patient with him because he could really build something there.
