Points to ponder

Farnold Degand starts at pg for NC State. Shawn Taggert is first big off the bench for No. 3 Memphis. Tasheed Carr starts at pg for St. Joe's. So Wayne wasn't too bad at recruiting. However, in the 3 games I have seen Degand isn't even average at pg, and this after 2 years as a red shirt. And while Taggert did score 17 the other night, he still can't defend or rebound. Haven't seen Carr but one game but he looked good. I wish Carr would have stayed but the other two? We don't need another big who can't rebound or defend, we are already overstocked in that dept. And in another month, Garrett will be a better pg than Degand. Don't get too excited about this post, just an old fart sounding off.

The only time I think about those players is when you guys decide to post about it. They're gone, I'm over it, and in all honesty, I was not broken up about it when they left (especially Taggart).

I don't recall ever hearing an outcry that Wayne was a bad recruiter.

Bad coach yes - but I think the overwhelming majority applauded his recruiting.

Yeah I remember when a gallon of gas was $.25 and a loaf of bread was $.10. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Actually I see what your point is (no pun intended). If we had these players still, our team would be a whole lot different. Coulda/shoulda but the reality is we do not have these players and need to move on as painful as it may be or become.

On the other hand, Jon Leuer put in some significant minutes for Wisc. vs. Duke. He's the Minn. kid who grew 7" while in HS and went from a Sg to PF, similar to Wesley Johnson and Justin Hamilton. Recruited hard by GMac but chose Wisc. Along with Keaton Nankivil, Jared Berggren, and Ian Markoff. Anyone of these misses would make me feel better about GMac's recruiting and next year's team.

I totally agree Geez. Wisconsin has been a big recruiting thorn in our side since McD started. I would have loved to have any one of those guys as you said.

I totally agree. I couldn't stand Taggart.....he thought he was a lot better than he was.

From the spurts of good playing from Brackins, I'd take him over Taggart. I'd take him solely for his work ethic.

Once Brackins get some NCAA experience under him, I think he's going to be a force, both inside and outside, because he's a big mismatch outside for just about any big man. I agree with Tubby, later in the year he might be able to carry the team. If we could've had Lucca on the same side as the guard it'd be scary...

I can't wait til Diante gets comfortable and passes the hell outta that ball to our studs.

Yeah, it seems like our guards are always a couple seconds too late looking for our post players. Our posts will come across the lane and post up 3 feet from the basket, but by the time (and if) they get the ball they end up being up by the free throw line.

I really do wish Diante would get a bit more comfortable. I think he can be a good passer but he's really not great at it right now. He's an excellent penetrator, but I think he gets in a little deep and then doesn't quite have the offense totally learned and the court vision to pass out of it. It seems like if he gets really deep in the paint he lobs up some weak floater.

Love the kid though. Absolutely love him.

If he could hit the 3 routinely, that would really, really open up the inside. I'm with you BryceC, I love the kid too.

Similar to Callahan who was an excellent recruiter and a ex-pro coach who did not coach.
