I think this discussion begins and ends with Brickhouse Pizza on the square. My wife and I drive down to Indianola from time to time just to eat there. Great Chicago-style pizza.

Brickhouse is awesome, fantastic pizza. I was not a fan of Wynn's, very poor man's food, sorry. Never had Pete's, but Brickhouse is hard to beat, similar to the old Pizza Kitchen that used to be in Ames in Campustown.

My first recommendation is always Crouse Cafe, but after that its One Stop Sandwich Shop. Formerly One Stop Taco Shop, formerly One Stop On The Square, formerly That One Collapsed Building On The Square. Serving gringo-made flour tacos and large Mexican menu in Indianola for forever. the website claims they are now open at 903 E 2nd St.:

I am so, so ashamed I forgot One Stop. The mere fact that are you going on Saturday (half price taco day) cancels out all other options. Get 3 beef tacos, lather on the taco sauce...you are set.

I suppose it may be time for me to give Brick House another try. I ate there when it first opened and I think they were a bit overwhelmed. My pizza came out a bit cold and it took about an hour and a half for them to get it to me. I'd be willing to give it another try....

One Stop (I can only speak to the tacos, never had the urge to try anything else) or Pete's is the way to go though.

I second the One Stop suggestion.

We'll be down there this weekend as well. The in-laws live right across the highway from the field, kinda nice. Hoping for good weather.

I've had both and Pete's Pizza beats the Brickhouse and it isn't even close.

Taking my wife to the balloon festival this weekend. Anyone know some good reastaurants in Indianola?
Indianola is pretty limited. We went to Sports Page and the kitchen closed ridiculously early. We ended up staying there and having Godfather's deliver us a pizza!

Hmmmm so I need to choose between Crouse Cafe, Wynns Pizza, or Pete's pizza.

I'm thinking we'll go around 3-3:30 to see some of the arts/crafts. Hang around until 6 for the opening ceremonies/night time launch, go to one of the said restaurants, then come back for fireworks.

If your going to go to Pete's you won't want to show up after 6 as it will be packed unless you don't mind waiting. I think it opens at 4 and you would be better off going to eat before the opening ceremonies/night time launch.

If you go to Pete's I dare you to score higher than 86 on their basketball game (assuming its still there). I dare you.

It is still the same, it use to be the National Championship for the Balloon Federation of America but the BFA moved it to New Mexico so Indianola kept what they were doing and just changed the name from National Balloon Championships to National Balloon Classic and cut their ties with the BFA. They will still have over 100 balloons at this thing.

Pete's pizza is really good, though for a few weeks, we were under the impression that they weren't in business, because we couldn't get them to answer the phone. La Casa is decent mexican food for cheap, and pretty fast service. Got a new Pizza Ranch too, which seems ok.
