looking for a new spot. use to live in johnston, moved away, but still go back to des moines a couple times a year. we always used to hit stellas up for 1 lunch when we were down, but i see that it is closed now. the food wasn't the best, but it was kind of a fun and different place to go.

what i'm looking for is something not real expensive, but something either really good or a place that's a little different then your everyday restaurant.

not a chain restaruant preferably.

Monterrey is a good Mexican place just a couple of doors down from Babies 'R' Us. Also, there is Cool Basil a couple of more doors down if you like Thai/Sushi.

Red rosa pizza is really good. Shanes ribshack is a better version of famous dave's IMO. Both are in the strip mall area on 128th and university by the new healthy living center YMCA

I agree on the Club Car.
Used to work at the Wells across the street and we'd hit the Club Car often.
I was glad to have discovered it.

Thank you for this!!!!
Im an Italian sandwich nut!
I never knew this place had a deli. And I only recently even noticed it was there at all.
There was a thread a few months ago where everyone was discussing a great place to get a sandwich, and no one bothered to mention this place!
Ill be checking this out as soon as possible.

I love their Italian hogies. Be prepared to wait for a few min though, they get backed up around lunchtime but it is worth the wait.

What part of Clive? Near the eastern edge of the city, I like Buffet City and Monterrey. Near the west side, I like granite city, and trostil's dish.

My buddy and I used to always go to Rookies but we worked in Waukee. Great chx wrap and stromboli.

Glad to see the Club Car still going, I liked it the couple times I was there.
There was a bar on Hickman at the east side of town that had great bar food but I completely forget the name now. Just east of 86th a bit before you get down the hill.
+1 on Cool Basil and Monterey as well.
