After reading the Tennessee message board the last several days, I now kind of feel bad for those guys. What a lame hire Heupel is. It is like Tennessee wants to be a copy of Nebraska. They got the second string UCF coach and the first string guy sucks at Nebraska. Both programs are living in the past.

This is how these things go. The people the fans want are never actually options.

Imagine paying your new athletic director $1.8 million a year just to hire the G5 coach from the school he just left, though. He could be the best person for the job, but like, yikes.

Agee and disagree somewhat. Being at a place like Tennessee should get you a better coach than Heupel but with everything going on with them I’m not sure who else they realistically had a shot with. Coaches sure aren’t lining up for interviews.

Not exactly sure.

What happens when you can coaches every two years and some coaches don't even make it to the first practice.

The coaching fraternity is pretty small and allowing a campus mob to undermine your administrators was always going to have some long term effects.

Iowa State had both Earle Bruce and Johnny Majors as head coaches here and didn't try to keep them. Iowa State's reputation became that of a school that didn't care about football. It has taken 40 years of scratching and clawing to overcome that.

Or $120,000 to a search firm only to hire your old football coach. That screams none of the "big" names wanted the job.

FFS, there’s a thread just started called “How long before we beat Bama now?” Some rational folks in there but some genuinely think they can beat them now. Uhm... no. No you will not.

I can answer that with, how long before Saban retires. Then the question only was, how long before we might have a chance to beat Bama?

Exactly. Saban is a machine. Unless he gets caught cheating then forget about it. They might want to start with just trying to be the best team in their own state.

Way up there
Take a Husker fan and throw in a dash of SEC arrogance and you've got a Vols fan. It's been fun watching schools like UT, Nebraska and Florida State have humble pie shoved down the throats during the last few coaching searches.

So to recap TN paid UCF $2mil to buyout AD Whites contract, gave AD White $1.8mil per year contract that contains a 5% pay raise per year, paid a search firm $120,000 to make unanswered phone calls and after all that they ended up with Heupel?
