Yes, it is still there. I loved there sandwiches and cheese bread too.

We try to go there sometimes when we get back to Ames, but it is hard to compete with Hickory Park.

Late Night Special: 2 mediums for about $13

One summer in the early 80's they had pitchers of beer for a quarter!
And they still have the Klipsch KG2 speakers hanging from the ceiling.

Does anyone out there remember when Thumbs Up was in campustown?

Also many a Thursday Night was spent at the Cave-In "socializing."

Pizza Pit is still a part of the Ames Pizza "Slice" Triangle:

*Pizza Pit
*Old George's
*Great Plains

Which forms the Top tier pizza locations in the Ames / Boone Metropolitan Statisical area. :D

Of course. My roommates and I were founding customers in the '70s. Ordered takeout on average 5 out of 7 nights a week. When the munchies hit, the call went in, and we didn't have identify who we were or what we wanted. Just said-- 'Bring it over'.

My parents bought our first computer (Apple 2E) from the owner of Pizza Pit, whom my dad was friends with.

Tom was upgrading his computer to a new IBM to help run his business.

We used to go out there and pick up a pizza and drop off our weekly payment every Friday night!! Those were the good ol' days!!

On Fridays, George's has personal two-topping pizzas for $5.95. They are enormous - bigger than a dinner plate. We go every Friday.

You are missing the 4th piece of that puzzle making it the "Quadrangle" and it almost brings me to tears bringing it up.

I was there between 86 and 91 and DaVinci's was the best place to eat pizza at in town in my opinion. Made it there at least twice a year since graduating until I decided to take my parents out there 2 years ago and, much to my dismay, it was replaced by a Chinese joint. Now if that ain't a Crock of "Hawkeye", I don't know what is.

Pizza Pit was a one of the staple diets down there as well. I took my 7 yr old there before the Kansas basketball game this past year and IMO it was not near as good as it was back in the good old days.

Ah, the cheesesteak hoagies were delicious. & an artery clogger

Unfortunately, DaVinci's couldn't keep their heads above water. Which isn't much of a shock when toward the end of their run they had specials of 25 cent (?) cheesesteak hoagies with each one you bought at regular price. The same deal for their pizzas

I wasn't a fan of DaVinci's pizza, but the cheese steak hogies were awesome. I used to stockpile the Campus Coupons for the "Buy 1 get 1 free" deal!!

The large pepperoni pizza with extra cheese was to die for...

I started a thread way back when I found out they were gone and someone came on saying that the DaVinci building had been a gas station prior, and there lease was up and in order to meet compliance, they were going to have to do soil tests to see if the buried gasoline tanks were leaking any contamination. Supposedly they looked at other locations available in Ames and couldn't come up with one.

I think they have one restaraunt left in Omaha or Lincoln NE and I am hoping to take the family to the Omaha Zoo and hope to find the joint to so I can eat some of that great stuff again. I can't imagin being an ISU student without DaVinci's. Oh what they are missing!!!:sad9cd:

If anyone knows where the remaining restaraunt is, I would be eternally gratefull for directions..

Before DaVinci's, it was Minky's Pizza (my first Pizza Date, after seeing, of all the movies out there "Ghandi" -yeah anything to be near this woman). Maybe prior to that it was a gas station.
