I'm looking for a recommendation for great pizza in the West Des Moines area. Prefer somewhere I have never been. (no chains) Deep Dish is not an option.. prefer traditional thin crust.

Momma Lacona's or Felix and Oscars?? or something else? I have had Tavern, Paradise Pizza, Angelo's.

Sarpino's is a really great place. Awesome toppings. Not really thin crust, but I'd say it's like a hand-tossed type of crust.

Felix and oscars is HORRIBLE, it will put you on the crapper for days, and it is deep dish chicago style. It is just a bowl of undercooked dough and grease.

Tavern has great thin crust pizza.

Felix & Oscar's has great deep dish, but since you don't want it there's no point in going there. I know Pagliai's has pretty good thin crust pizza.

Encore Pizza in Johnston is run by ex-Cyclone Dennis Gibson and has pretty good thin-crust pizza. Not really WDM, but how can you say no to a former Clone?

Best thin crust (taco ESPECIALLY) is Pagliais (sp?) in Johnston! The taco is UN REAL.

We had Mustard's in Windsor Heights last night for supper. I heard they stole the Tavern's recipe - and I honestly like it better than the Tavern.

One thing to be aware of - A co-worker recently went there and ordered a medium pizza. When they got it, the bottom of the pizza was burnt. They mentioned it to one of the workers who was walking around and the worker said "oh, yeah, when you order a medium pizza, you need to remember to tell us not to leave it in too long or the pizza will burn." A little confused, they tried to eat what they could of the pizza, and mentioned it again to a different worker and got the same response. It's as if the cook couldnt' remember not to burn the pizza, so they expected the customer to remember it for them.

However, last night we ordered a medium and it came out just fine, so take it for what it's worth.

Dude, I just finished making one of my best pizzas, ever. I would've invited you if I'd only known.

Whole wheat hand-tossed crust, basil and olive oil sauce, and your choice of salami or feta cheese. My stomach is about to burst, but it was nirvana to eat....

I'd like to get your regular and wheat hand-tossed crust recipe.
