I think we are going to start hearing excuses about his injury very shortly.

Hassel has been using that excuse every single week. He said going into the ISU game that McNamara was playing on one leg basically... and that if ISU happened to beat them... that was going to be the reason why.

Hassel is a fraud. He is your normal non-iowa grad that is blind to reality.

The outrage by Hawk Fans will be short lived, their remaining schedule is really weak as they don't have a single ranked team on it. They'll likely win the Big 10 West then get their ass handed to in the Big 10 Championship game. The question is if BF and the offense will be just good enough to beat up on some of the trash teams they will play to make up enough ground to get his 25 point average. They'll probably best up on Michigan State and the Hawk fans will step back from the ledge a bit every week as they roll off some wins against weak opponents. Seems to happen every year lately after they have a bad game.

What would really make some waves is if the new interim/likely new AD in waiting wants to make a statement and fires Brian during the season as he doesn't report to Kirk so it's really not his call to make. Would be a good way for her to draw the line in the sand that nepotism doesn't mean job security.
I really doubt if the new AD at EIU is going to go out on a limb and fire Freerents kid when the team will end up with 9 to 10 wins and in the conference championship game no matter how many points they average.
Look at the remaining schedule they will be favored in all but the Wisconsin game.

During the game last night they were showing the list of most wins by a B10 coach, Freerents was #4 on the list with 186 wins, give him 6 more this season, puts him 2 wins behind Bo for third and 7 behind Stagg for 2nd all time. All of this without ever winning an outright conference championship. Freerents will coach next year if not the year after to try and break the record of Hays at 202.

And Wisconsin is not good. We shall see how they are as the season progresses and they adapt more to Fickle's style, but right now, they aren't anything to write home about.
Its been 2 weeks but last i checked sagarin ratings, isu was close to wisky, and better than everyone else in the b1g west. On top of that, several of those teams are flat out terrible. Wisky and nebby are ok. Minny and Illinois have a pulse. But the rest... yeesh.

Id put them at 6-2 rest of the way.
Better chance of 7-1 than 5-3. FIVE home games and NW neutral!

Love it. There is a flip side to BF incentive contract and running up the score last week… opposing coaches might be inclined to really keep on the gas defensively even in a blowout like this, just to stick it to BF, who I assume isn’t liked in that league.
Why would opposing coaches want Brian gone?

Not only will the schedule get tougher, but now the top 2 teams go to the CCG, which means they have to have a better record than all but 1 of OSU, Mich, PSU, USC, Wash, etc… it just is t going to realistically ever happen again. Plus, their bowl slot is probably going to annually slide down several pegs.
We could only hook they could return to their glorious 60’s and 70’s. :)

To be fair, even a game played at Northwestern is really a neutral site game.

Nah. For whatever reason, the conference loves consistently hooking them up with the likes of Rutgers and Indiana every year.
They have announced the conference opponents/sites for 2024 and 2025.

Iowa will play at home vs Maryland, Nebraska, UCLA, and Wisconsin and play at Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio State, Rutgers, and USC in 2024

Iowa will play at home vs Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, and Penn State and play at Indiana, Nebraska, Purdue, and Wisconsin in 2025

So Iowa will have to play Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, and USC in the next 2 years. That’s a much more difficult change to their schedule vs what they have been used to for the last 10 or so years

Is this their schedule since Oregon and Washington left the PAC?

What I really enjoyed last night is that our CBS affiliate in Central Iowa, KCCI, decided to devote their entire Saturday night programing to the Iowa-Penn State game with their pre and post game specials.

That's what they get when they hitch their wagon to the fake ID of college football.
all week long they have been hyping this game. even cut from the news to kf press conference at which he looked like he wanted to cry

Evidently the first bad offensive game.

After the game, Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz defended their offensive process.

"I'm not a wholesale believer in changing just because you had a bad game," Ferentz said, according to the Des Moines Register. "It was not a good game tonight. I think we made progress in three weeks … we'll keep it in perspective."

I thought that was before adding Oregon and Washington though.
